My no. 1 school is Northwestern University, and I want to apply HPME.

However, I took the SAT II for Chem and Math II and got mid 600s on both. It was kinda rushed for me and yadda yadda yadda ;)

Aside from excuses, I had these scores accidently sent to them straightaway and now that its too late, my question is: are my chances SIGNIFICANTLY worse, just plain worse, or what? I know HPME is definitely out, but how about admittance for just Northwestern University?

SAT IIs aren’t that influential, and 600s aren’t too bad for chemistry, but perhaps for Maths II. It greatly depends on your reasoning and other factors too.

What do you mean by not accepted to HPME but Northwestern? It’s a dual degree?

I doubt Chem will have a major impact, but Math 2 does will make you less competitive. @alafae HPME is a special program offered by NW University; it’s a 7 year program for handful of high achieving students who want to study in medicine. It’s like Brown University’s PLME.

I would agree that HPME is probably out of reach given how competitive it is. As for NU itself - the majority of applicants do submit subject test scores, and scores in the 600s will not help you since they are below the 50th percentile. I don’t think anyone on CC can tell you the impact of those scores on your overall application. A lot of kids from our local high school go to Northwestern and given what I see locally, my gut is that if your overall application is very strong - they won’t reject you solely on the scores, but if you are on the margin and come from an area where they get a lot of applications, it could definitely hurt. Good luck!

I mean I don’t think being rejected from HPME apply him another chance to apply to NU itself, right? Coz ppl usually do apply to a double degree program, so if one school rejects him, the other accept, he’s still in. Whilte a single degree, a reject is a reject.
