lets just say i got an SATII grade that was...less than desirable. i'm going to take more and really study hard to make up for it...but how badly is this going to hurt my chances at harvard?

Nothing totally discounts you from any university. Try to study and improve the score. But remember, SAT II's are definitely less important than GPA and the overall picture of you as an individual.

Relax.

They only care about the three subject tests you do the best on.

So how low is this....like low for a CCer.....so like a 700
or like actually low?
I think that all the SATIIs shows is mastery of a subject. if you took the AP test for that same subject and did well it will definitely balance everything out.
If not just retake it and if you get like a 750+ it shows that you are smart and plus you are willing to work for a goal

well the day i took the test was a really bad day for me... i had a lot going on which my counselor is going to explain in her letter. but the score wasn't in the 700's. it was like 630.

lol @ "it was like a 630"

so it was a 640 or a 620? ;)

I got a 440 on the German SAT II and never retook it. But I did very well on three other SAT II's (750+) and I am currently on the waitlist for Harvard.

Just proof that a horrible SAT II score (it was the 11th percentile) won't ruin your chances for Harvard.

I had a 680 US H and a 650 Bio M, and I'm on the WL. test scores aren't everything

I got off of the wait list and will be attending. The first two times I scored a 560 in SAT I math. The third time I scored a 640. Don't worry about retaking it.

I'm on the waitlist and I got a 650 in Literature and a 690 in Math I. So, I wouldn't worry too too much.

Honestly, it depends on the rigor of your school and the opportunities available to you. For example, in order to do well on the Biology SAT II, I had to take the highest level bio class at my school (which I couldn't take until grade 12)...so when I took the Bio SAT in November, I had only learned 1/3 of the curriculum and had to teach it mostly to myself.

SAT II scores are only a single aspect of your application.

my friend got accepted with a 590 in french, a 670 in US, and a 720 in math ii.

granted both of her parents went to harvard and her mom usually does interviews (she stopped this year so that my friend wouldn't be accused of having an unfair advantage).

Can't you just retake them?

jcll2002, lol it was a 630. i don't know, i guess i was just embarassed to type it. but im over it now.

and yeah DagnyT, im going to retake them. my dad's an admissions officer (not for harvard tho) and he says if you do badly and then retake it, the admissions people will probably just assume you had a bad day or something and will count the higher one. so hopefully thats true...

Look at Harvard's viewbook online for what it says about retakes of tests, which is that your best scores are considered.

Harvard is a lot more "holistic" in its admissions, than you might think, and doesn't just go by numbers.

sat II scores in my opinion are not such a factor. your other test scores, gpa, activities would all probably come first.

Competely wrong.

Sat II's count just as muchas SAT I's.
