Bad Semester with Low Grades

This is the end of my second semester at a CC where I pretty much screwed up and I'm almost positive that I will receive one D and one F (which a D is for my major). I was wondering if retaking the courses will provide me any chance of transferring to a UC (most preferably UCI) where my first semester's GPA was 3.5, and I'm pretty sure this semester might be sub 2.0. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone knows if I have any chance. Thanks.

Retaking them will help. Why did you screw up?

UCI has admission guarantee programs- look into those, all you need is a 2.8 for most majors.

Depends where you are applying. Usually, UC's do not recommend retaking a course to make up a grade. They will refer to your first attempt always.

Eh? For failing grades they'll still see the failing grade, but it won't factor into his gpa. That seems to be the consensus at least

edit:I was referring to Russkiy_Bear. Don't know how I got ahead of him

D and F is not passing for the UCs and you would have to retake them to make the course count as a preq requirement.

they will see the d/f grades but they will not calculate them into your gpa. So in reality it doesnt really impact your gpa.

Ok so lets say I retake the course that I received a D/F on and have positive grades for the rest of my CC transfer years, and sign up for the guaranteed or honors program, is it possible in any way that I can transfer to UCI even though my original grades of D/F are on my transcript?

guaranteed program means they automatically accept you.

Go to your CC website - look for the agreements they have with UCI, and see if your major qualifies.

Usually if you have a 2.8 with the agreement they take you no matter what, even if you have like 10 Fs that you retook.

I checked the UCI site for transfer guaranteed program (TAG) and my CC is listed in; however I don't see my major which is political science but it shows how all major need a gpa of 2.7 in which i'm unsure if poli sci is included in there

It is 2.7--------- poli sci is a social science, so it would be in the school of social sciences.
