i got rejected from early admission for cal poly slo in mechanical engineering. although my application will go through with the normal applications is this a bad sign?

A bad sign? It's only a sign that in the most competitive pool of applicants, yours didn't make the final cut. However, neither were you rejected too. You're still in the running. EA/ED deferrals can and do become eventual "admits".

Best of luck to you.

Wait, were you rejected or deferred?

la montagne; "will go through with the normal applications", then probably deferred.

Don't let frustration get a grip on you; you should have gotten in Slo, but other schools will definitely be waiting.

Deferred Early Decision Applicant Asks for Advice - Ask The Dean

I think he was deferred.

I was deferred!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what should I do? should I contact them or what? is this a bad sign?

You should contact them and be clear that this school is still your first choice. Ask if there is anything else you can/should provide.

Read the link I posted above. It includes steps you might want to take to improve your chances in the regular decision pool. Can you increase your test scores? Could your GC help you out.

Okay, deferred... he wrote rejected, so I wasn't sure if maybe he thought that an ED rejection meant deferral.

It's not necessarily a bad sign; some people get in RD after being deferred ED. I know at some schools (like MIT) it's common, though at other schools it's not.
