Bad testing...

I know that we have probably all taken the SSATs already, but let's look back and think "could we have done better?" Sometimes anxiety really jsut drags someone with excellent math and/or reading grades to a score of 60% on the SSATs. I was just wondering what everyones opinion on this is. Was the test actually fair? Should we have crammed?

I know I could've done much better because I consistently scored in the 80's on the practice tests. I got pretty nervous at the testing center, though.

so whatda get? if you don't mind me askin...feel free not to tell me, if you don't want to:)

It's this thing where all school have to have very even ratios between both sexes and since boys score higher....I guess it's harder for you guys. HEHE

No, guys score higher on Math, so if a guy and a girl get the same questions right on Math, the girl's score will go up.

Girls are better at Verbal/Reading on these tests, however. They enjoy the advantage in scoring.

Jonathan got a 40.

And testing for math/reading in school is different from the SSATs, since material in school is subject-intensive and not holistic.

Yes, as Olivia pointed out I got a 40. 50 V, 50 R, 31 M. I totally bombed it. I can't believe I scored so low.

Studying really does help bring your score up. So does relaxing. I brought my score up from 71% overall to 88%. I think it was just nerves that got to me my first time.

All I can say is practice, practice, and practice, which results in knowledge of test format and not freaking out. There was really no studying or cramming to be done; it's not an information test, but an examination of skills. However, memorizing vocabulary isn't a bad idea. Nothing can be done for the reading section if a person doesn't read on a regular basis beforehand.

Personally, I scored way better than I suspected I would. Okay, so not way better, but about 5% higher. It makes me pretty happy anyways since I thought I would be scoring worse.

From what I heard the average scores of boys who apply to schools like andover are higher than girls and so for a girl she might only need a 93 % but a guy needs 95 % just because his peers score higher...tat's what I heard...:) Anyways, I WENT TO A CRAPPY PUBLIC SCHOOL ~ I MEAN LITERALLY I WAS JUST PRAYING NOT TO FAIL so I could at least apply for BB&N or sumthin....I didn't care cause I thought I would screw it up and I tried my best...I got a 95 % 1st time and a 96 % the second time...I think that not caring will help...I mean it sounds stupid even as I think about it, but the best piece of advice is to just........not care. LOLS
