Bad Thank-you note scenario

I had an on-campus interview over the summer, and afterwards I went home and wrote a thank-you letter. I thought I'd sent it, but just last weekend, I was cleaning a previously-untouched pile of paper (parts of my room are very disorganized) and it turns out I hadn't sent it. I feel terrible, especially considering that I didn't think my interview went very well. I applied EA...is it worth sending again this late? And would the absence of a thank-you letter have hurt the interview write-up?

i didnt send a thank you note

I'm not sure I'd mail the one from last summer, but maybe it's not a terrible idea to write a carefully worded belated thanks:

"Dear Mr. interviewer,
I can't believe my application to Yale is complete, and somewhere in the process of being evaluated and that soon I'll know if I've been accepted to my dream school. I'm writing to thank you for sitting down with me last summer for an interview. In the rush of my senior year, I let too much time go by before thanking you, but please know that I appreciate our meeting and the information you shared with me about x. Your explanation of x also contributed to my decision to apply to Yale in the EA period. Thanks again and blah blah blah."

This is full of cliches, so you should obviously rework. I'm a big believer in thanking people, even if its late.

To be 100% frank, I don't think it'll matter one bit. The adcoms are very professional and while a note is nice, they won't be swayed by your courtesy. They are at the final stages of discussion for EA right now. I don't think he/she would even bother to read fully a think you note. Not being mean, but if I were in their shoes, I couldn't be bothered at this point.

Really, it's a nice gesture on your point but I think it's unnecessary. Thank you notes don't sway me in my interviewing and write ups. They are nice social gestures but that's all. Good luck nonetheless.

I agree T26, this won't impact admissions, but I'm wearing my mom hat, and am encouraging the OP to follow this good impulse. Maybe the writing time could be spent sending a note to someone who WILL have time to read it: GC, teacher?

Best advice: if you feel like sending it, send it.
