My D and I just got back from Princeton's admitted students days. The most striking thing about the place is just how diverse it feels. It is no longer the clubby place of my days. I was most struck by the sheer power of the kids. So it may still be a beautiful bubble, but it is a bubble filled by kids from everywhere. The new(ish) dean of admissions has made a difference.

And as far as culture? Hello - it's easy to get to NY from Princeton and the residential colleges take the kids to Broadway...If you are going to leave campus you might as well leave for NY as for New Haven...

Ahh, that sounds so awesome, aparent5! One of the things I'm most excited about Princeton is the student and city art scene. Add on top of that the Philadelphia and New York City theatre/music/art opportunities, and Princeton's just oh-so-perfectly located :)

hey mea, yale was my first choice this whole time through the college application process largely due to the community service opportunities/fervor. what with such a homeless population virtually at Yale's gates, to me, it seemed that it was impossible for one not to have a heart to help, thus explaining the Yale Hunger and Homelessness Action Project which of late has a focus on the New Haven community. Since being rejected by Yale I've had to search out opportunities through Princeton to realize the same service experience that i was eagerly anticipating experiencing at Yale. I've found many venues through the SVC (the umbrella organization for student service projects), but none that struck me as deeply as being able to help the hungry and homeless right there in New Haven as I yearned to do. So after speaking with SVC reps who told me they would provide funds and transportation for a project i may desire to spearhead, I'm currently attempting to create a project combatting hunger and homelessness in NYC in collaboration with Yale's Hunger and HOmelessness Action Project. My point in all this is that were you to go to Princeton, you would still have the opportunity to work with those passionate about helping others (from both Yale and Princeton) in a big way

That sounds...amazing, rockettgerl. Truly amazing. If you ever need/want people to help you out with that, I'm more than willing to do whatever. That's an awesome undertaking, and I hope that it meets with success.

ohhh Phil, thank you, thank you! I would appreciate that so very much. (Golly I cant wait to meet you, you seem so very nice and just generally ethusiastic about Princeton and your future classmates.) I will most definitely be in touch over the summer/early fall as I try to coordinate this.

Most definitely! That I'm going to be going to school with someone who's doing this is mind-blowing...so yeah, I wanna be a part of it :D I can't wait to meet you either!

rockettgerl22 - hmm, now I really do want to go to pton. If I do go, count me in if you need anyone at all (i.e. if philntex turns out to be a big slacker ; ) :p). If I don't (increasingly an unlikely prospect), then best of luck! I tried spearheading a service project in high school and it was difficult, but worth it.

Doood, mea, I definitely am a slacker sometimes...so I'll give you that, haha. But when it comes to stuff like this, I'm really into it. You should come and join the working party. Ain't no party like a workin' party :D
