Hello, everyone! I am quite new to this forum and I joined because a question that I had in mind was bothering me a little.
The question is “What are my chances if I have a horrid transcript but a terrific GPA?”
Now, may I get into some background information: My family were struggling financially and my mother was struggling medically. This lead to me having to often double (and sometimes even triple) my load of work. At most, I would only get about 2-3 hours asleep at night. This lead to feeling overwhelmed, to becoming stressed, to becoming depressed, to eventually just giving up on my academic career because I had very little time for it. As a result, I failed many of my classes. This happened in both freshman and the 1st semester of sophomore year. Since then, things started to settle in with the family, and I decided that it would be best for me to be homeschooled so I could attend to my mother’s needs. I have retaken classes, finished all of my high school credits (all Honors) online in a semester and a half, and the rest of my years I took a bunch of AP classes. I also did several dual credit courses part time when my mother was nearly recovered. I ended up with an unweighted GPA of 4.0 and a weighted GPA of 4.65. My SAT is also a 2300, my ACT is 35. But the problem is… is that my transcript shows “F’s” and “D’s”. How can I combat these? How will colleges like UC Berkley, Stanford, and Princeton look at these? What are my chances?
You will get flamed by the officers at such schools because of your transcript but you can tell a story with your application essay, coming from the background you live in.
Perhaps the essay can help you a lot!!!
Good luck and peace be with you!
Thank you very much for the advice! Though can you clarify perhaps how they may end up being flamed? As in will they be enraged at me? Or perhaps just throw my application out of the window? I am sorry if it appears that I am stressed, but I am just really anxious to know why!

Flamed meaning looked over at as bad. But you are not bad my friend!
