BADA Midsummer in Oxford 2014

Recently admitted into the program this summer and just trying to connect with other participants! Also, could anyone who's done BADA's summer program in the past tell me about their experience? Thanks!

Congratulations! My son and a friend of his attended the program last summer. They both loved it and felt they learned a lot. The program began with a Harry Potter-style banquet. The next day were auditions (a single Shakespeare monologue) which were used to place the actors into small groups/ensembles. His group bonded quickly and worked well together. The weekday schedule, with the exception of Wednesday, consisted of class 9am-6pm with one hour for lunch. There were 15 main class periods a week. Modern and Shakespeare met four times, Physical and Voice met three times, and Audition Techniques once per week. My son’s teachers were Ian Woolbridge, Paola Dionisotti, Mick Barnfather, Mike Hayden, and Irina Brown, respectively. Short, individual tutorials were held on Wednesdays. Master classes and workshops with guest actors (Fiona Shaw, Henry Goodman, John Barton, David Harewood, Julian Glover), plus a Q&A session (Brian and Alan Cox) were held as well, either on Wednesdays or weekends. Evenings were often busy memorizing and preparing assignments for class the next day. The housing consists of single rooms which provided private space for rehearsing; the rooms have spotty wifi. One weekend they visited Stratford-upon-Avon, saw a RSC show with the group (some saw another as well on their own), toured, and had a Q&A session with two of the RSC performers (Greg Hicks and Jonathan Slinger) the next day. On their own, students take trips to London and see more theatre there and visit the sights. The program ends with a day of student performances to which family and friends are invited.

Anyone from LA going?

Thanks so much for the response! Good to hear that your son enjoyed it. Did he participate in the “BADA Midsummer Conservatory” program for 16-18 year olds? I’m a university student so I’ll be doing the program at Magdalen College, Oxford.

@‌stal Are you participating this summer?

He participated in the Midsummer in Oxford Program at Magdalen College for those 18 and older.

My daughter just got into BADA’s London Theatre Program for next fall. Would love to connect her to other students going then as well!

@jason2216 I’m also doing the program this summer

@katbon12‌ @KellyLJ1‌ I am a student attending BADA’s program this July! We should link up!

Do you know how many audition for the summer program and how many they admit? Are the odds horrible?

I don’t know how many audition. I know they hold auditions in major cities throughout the US and offer the possibility of video submissions in certain circumstances. I believe they admit about 100, give or take. While it is a competitive program, I don’t think the odds are “horrible.” I would definitely encourage you to apply if you’re interested. Also, I know of some applicants who didn’t get in the first year they auditioned but did get in the following year. From what I’ve heard, besides acting skills, I suspect they are also looking for actors who have a good work ethic and work well in a group.
