i'm a canadian applicant to yale.

i've heard that it's significantly harder for canadians to get in. then i heard somewhere else that canadians have weaker stats than the students in the us.

so considering the potentially weaker stats but also considering the small quota assigned to canadian students, is it harder or easier to get in as a canadian student???

does anyone know an estimate of what the quota is?? (i've heard that its around 30, but i'm not sure...)

all input is greatly appreciated!!!

Fall, 2009 total Canadian undergraduates at Yale: 67 (out of 5,242 total, 467 int’l)

Fall, 1999 total Canadian undergraduates at Yale: 84 (out of 5,266 total, 356 int’l)

Sorry, couldn’t find definitive historic trend information, but it appears that although the total number of non-U.S. students at Yale over the last ten years has increased, the total number of Canadian students has decreased.

I have no idea if there is an annual “quota,” but if there is it would appear to be around 15-20 per class. Whether or not this is more or less selective than for U.S. students is impossible to say without knowing the number and profile of the Canadian students in the applicant pool, and that data is not published. If 24 Canadian admits per year is assumed (assuming a standard 67% yield to give 16 admits per class) , then 320 Canadian applicants per year would be needed to give the same 7.5% admission rate to Canadians as to the overall pool. 320 applicants per year from Canada would be an application rate much lower than, say, what Yale gets from California (probably around 2000-3000) in spite of the fact that both have approximately the same population, but this might very well be what happens. And, of course, no one but the Yale admissions office would have any idea how strong the Canadian application pool tends to be.

thanks for that!

it seems to be tough to be one of those 24 canadians. thats for sure.
