What kind of bags do girls use at college? A tote, a messenger bag, or a backpack? Any ideas of some cute ones to use?

Whatever is in style?

Depends where you go. At my school most girls use tote bags. Or really big designer bags. But some use backpacks. At other schools, like bigger public schools, more girls might use backpacks.

I don’t see many people with messenger bags.

i’m bringing a messenger bag[it’s a brown simple roxy] and a backpack that had a pretty design on it… I might buy a big bag-that’s not a messenger.

Some people have messenger bags, some have backpacks. It doesn’t really matter, just whatever you’re comfortable with.

I use a JanSport backpack, just like I did in high school.

during high school i used varied large handbags that would fit books. i found that H&M tends to sell great ones for around 30-40 bucks.

i’ll probably do the same this year. i saw a few at UO that looked nice.

Well I go to school in NYC; the chances of seeing many girls using a backpack are pretty slim (though not non-existent).

Depending on how much crap I have to carry that day, I’ll either use an oversized purse or a tote.

what’s wrong with a backpack?
(not a girl, so if there’s some girl-secret-code against backpacks, they’d need to be explained to me)

Backpacks are big, bulky, ugly, and makes things harder to access than an oversize purse/tote.

Sorority bags or Vera Bradley…you know, those big tote looking things.

I’ve noticed the same.

I use either a large Longchamp or Herve Chapelier tote bag. At my school pretty much only guys wear back packs.

My school is mostly messenger bags or large designer bags. I used a tote for a while, but it hurts my back (scoliosis, yay), so I’m switching to a backpack. Enough people with backpacks that I won’t look out of place…

these. And yeah, I’m a girl : P.
I major in book-heavy courses, so min 4 books, a laptop, 2 binders with notebooks at all times. I want a backpack, not fabric pieces held on by a glue!! I still care what I look like/how I’m presented, but I don’t want to break my shoulder haha

I hear that.

I don’t know what kind of backpacks you’ve been using, but JanSport makes some really stylish bags. And it makes it much easier to keep things organized, IMO.

Also, using tote bags when you have to carry big text books around campus (several of my courses require this), using a bag on just one shoulder can cause some serious issues with the alignment of your spine/shoulders/other joints later on in life.

I’d much rather have something that’s not quite as “cute” than have chronic shoulder pain.

“I’d much rather have something that’s not quite as “cute” than have chronic shoulder pain.”

I know right?

I dont know where you guys are going but I’d never walk around with something on one shoulder all day across campus/off campus/anywhere. And “designer” bags can get dirty/messed up quick and tear up fast since they are not meant for heavy use if you use it everyday. Backpacks are fine and I seriously could care less what mine looks like. I just use a black one, I dont even remember the brand. Almost everyone here uses a backpack of some kind and you can fit more stuff in there too without causing insane amounts of pain. Its handy when I go to get food from the grocery store or books.

I’m glad I’m not girl. You’re all crazy. It’s a damn bag. Quit being elitist about it.

That’s girls for you.

But they’re going to have fantastic posture.
