Bags (purses)

For your larger bags, do you keep the detachable strap on even if you rarely, if ever, use it? Do you think it looks incomplete without it, or messier (so much going on). I can’t decide.

I take them off on bags that I don’t use them.

Nice bag. I don’t like straps I don’t use. I’d take it off.

To my eye, it’s too much going on. If you aren’t going to use the strap, remove it. Alternatively, if you want the option for the strap, I would remove the hanging logo. That would simplify the look.

I don’t like bags with handles and straps. One or the other. Handles and a strap is like belt and suspenders. But the hanging medallion is my initials so i wouldn’t get rid of that.

Any bag I would use would have to have a shoulder strap. But in the last three years or so, I’ve realized that about 90% of the time, I can stick the couple things I actually need in my pockets and leave the bag on the counter. So I’m probably not the target audience you’re looking for input from.

Depends on the bag. I’m more a shoulder bag user so I’d leave it on. The hanging tags always leave me confused. Leave on or take off? I lean towards taking off.

I’d leave the charm on! Some folks add charms to bags that don’t have any.

If you aren’t going to use the shoulder strap, I’d take it off. I have a couple of bags that came with multiple shoulder straps. I think leather and a long chain for each. I took off the chains and left the leather.

I always wear my small purses cross-body, so I have to have a long strap. I don’t have any large purses.

You wouldn’t carry this purse with a strap over your shoulder therefore the strap is a bit pointless. If you should ever put the purse on a floor then the strap would get dirty.
No strap.

I love the look of this bag without a strap. But I personally carry everything as a shoulder bag and would sacrifice the lovely, stylish silhouette for convenience.

I would keep the strap on. I have a similar bag and once in a while I end up carrying heavy bags, a package, or something and like to be able to use the shoulder strap. I also happen to prefer the look with the strap on but that is personal taste.

Whatever you decide, enjoy the pocketbook.

Thanks everyone. FWIW, I love the MK charms.

For that style bag - definitely take it off. I don’t love the thin cross body strap unless it’s on a very small bag that’s meant to be a crossbody. Very cute bag!

If you question the strap because you know you might want to use it, since it’s a large (to me) bag you could keep the strap in a plastic bag inside the purse so it’s there if you need it.

I like no strap for the bags that are bigger. I leave the strap inside the bag, sometimes you need to be hands free so I can have that option when shopping or working around a city.

I always use shoulder bags; never carry a bag by its handles. So I wouldn’t buy this bag in the first place.

I’m with @ChoatieMom : I just carry a tiny wallet-on-a-string type bag with the essentials in it, and carry it crossbody. I stopped schlepping all sorts of heavy miscellany in my purse years ago.

This is what I carry: Gemma Crossbody | Kate Spade Surprise

If you never use the shoulder strap, then take it off. While there may be a very rare instance in which you would like to have it, not worth having it all the time. Or if you know you would need to be “hands free” can put it back on.

I, too, am a shoulder/crossbody person for the most part, even for larger bags.

I don’t buy purses with handles with straps. It’s either or. I used to only have handle bags but now I just use a cross body. I hate wearing purses in general, so if am with my husband, I don’t bring my purse, and I let him take care of paying for things.
