Going to take it a step further- both D’s (millennials) only carry their phone and with cards attached. I went to a soft card holder in my pocket years ago when I got frustrated hiking (on the spare of the moment) and had to transfer all my cards to my pocket and hide my purse in the car.
Large-breasted women, beware: If you use a crossbody bag, it can really accentuate your breasts – and not in a good way.
I often carry my purse on my shoulders, but I never buy purses with removable should straps. I just get ones with long enough handles to hang over my shoulder.
My cross body bags are very small with thin straps. Different usage.
Even if a purse is a crossbody it could have both straps and a handle and maybe little hanging charms or tassels or whatever! The OP’s question was simply about if her non-crossbody bag had too much going on with the strap attached.
There’s too much going on. It’s not a strap-type purse (handles are too prominent). Lose it.
Seems there’s consensus here. Let’s not beat a dead horse.
But isn’t that what we do here?
Yes it is. I do like the look of it on the table. I went out today to see how I’d like it and I didn’t. The bag is wide, and the strap was just way too much. I took it off, and really liked it better. I might keep it in the bag.
In the fall and winter I carry a large bucket bag. It also has a strap, but it’s shorter, and doesn’t seem to be overwhelming. The bag is narrow enough I can hook the strap around a chair at a restaurant. But this bag is too wide to do that.
Agree.
@conmama - I’m most impressed that you can carry a bag that color! If I had it I know it would get something spilled on it or get dirty.
I carry a pure white one in the summer. The only time I’m nervous is when I’m at the grocery store checking things off my list in pen, with my bag in the seat. I might change to a pencil. Other than that I’m not too worried…it’s not like it’s a high end designer bag. It actually retail for $498 and I got it from Poshmark for $170 brand new with all the wrapping and tags attached.
I love that you refer to it as a pocketbook! Are you from the mid-Atlantic?
There are different bags for different purposes. During the day I generally carry a tote bag (larger bag) to accommodate for an umbrella, scarf, water, etc. At night I like to carry a smaller bag just for my phone, wallet, lipstick. When I travel I will pack few bags for different purposes.
Northeast LOL
Me too. I have a nesting doll bag packing strategy. My woc goes into the tote, the tote goes inside a larger travel tote with other essentials I need to carry onto the plane.
/Since it appears we turned this into a general bag discussion… hope I’m ok posting this.
I have lots of crossbody’s I wear at night. I generally carry one day bag and change each season. I’ll swap it out if I want to wear a specific one for a special reason during the day.
At night, my crossbody’s are like jewelry. I will wear the one that’s best with the outfit.
I just googled my favorite bag because I wanted to post a link and saw that Charlotte Olympia is back in business!!!
I want her new web crossbody so badly!!
I love black bags with gold chains. I got the YSL Kate with black tassel for my birthday last year and just bought this one a few months ago on Poshmark for more than half off brand new. I think it’s so whimsical and fun for summer.
I love YSL Kates! And Gucci flora is one of my favorite patterns!
I started buying a few designer bags about 4 years ago. I’ve gone to the dark side.
Suddenly I don’t feel so bad for spending $500ish occasionally.
