My daughter has been assigned a double in Balch Hall, more specifically room 2166. Does anyone know how big approximately the rooms are? We are trying to get an idea of how much stuff we should bring. We heard that rooms on the north side are larger than ones on the south. Is that true?

I had a double in North Balch last year. My roommate and I were nervous at first when we found out that we had a “forced double” (a single that’s converted into a double). But as the year went by we realized how big the space actually was, and we absolutely loved the room and the dorm. As far as how much to bring, I brought pretty much all the clothes I own (5 XL space bags) and had enough room in the closet and dresser for them. The beds are usually quite high so definitely get some storage bins from bb&b. The mini fridge that I got from the dump and run also fit perfectly. Good luck! You can message me if you have any other questions

Thanks for the reply. Other than clothes what types of items did you bring or not bring and wish you had. For example I read somewhere that people say you should bring a standing lamp because the lighting is bad? Thanks for answering the questions.

I think bringing a standing lamp is a really advisable idea. the overhead lighting is harsh and you have more control when you’re using light bulbs. there is usually a desk lamp which I find pretty useful, but I consider it only one lamp tool and not enough on its own.
I also bring each year a crate and a small shelf for wet shower things and food respectively. (I don’t mind my own crate getting wet, but I don’t want to ruin the finish on the CU furniture and then get charged.)

This is the daughter, haha. Does anyone know anything specifically about room 2166, specifically how big doubles in unit 2-1 are? I am just not sure how much to bring (I will probably not be going home until Thanksgiving) and how much I will have room for. Will I have both a bureau and a closet? And do all rooms have sinks or just a few? Thank you!

I lived in Balch last year, and while I wasn’t in 2-1, I walked through the unit plenty of times. The doubles down there were pretty big compared to the forced double I was in. Even my room had plenty of space for everything I brought (which was way too much). My advice would be to bring everything you think you’ll need, and when you get there you can figure out what fits and what you actually do need. I don’t know how the sizes in North compare to South, but we definitely have the best laundry room! And yup, every room has a sink, although some share it with the room next door.

Intellectual5, you mentioned that you used space bags. Do you recommend others using the same method? Can you explain the whole vacuum process?

& I would assume that clothes would come out wrinkled? x)

I have no idea how I should move my closet over. How many tank tops/short sleeves do you guys recommend for fall?
