Baldwin Wallace Overtures

Is anyone else waiting to hear about the Overtures summer program for musical theatre?

Acceptances were emailed on Wednesday. All letters were mailed yesterday. I called the school because my daughter’s friend received the email and we didn’t. Sigh. Wish we knew what they look for in the videos.

Sorry if I missed this, but is this response regarding the 2013 summer Overtures program or 2012? We’re waiting to hear about summer 2013 so we can plan our summer vacation.

We haven’t heard anything for 2013 yet either.

Our daughter received her letter in Saturday’s mail. We live in OH so those of you out of state should receive yours soon. D didn’t get into Overtures, but they accepted her into the Conservatory Summer Intensive. Sounds like that is a bigger program in terms of numbers so not sure how selective that is. Anyone know?

The CSI does include a music theatre option, as well as an audition prep track, both for additional fees. But it sounds like those would be more vocal based, probably not much on acting and dance. But we are considering it. If any of you are accepted for CSI, they say you must respond by May 1, just FYI.

My daughter got the invitation to CSI as well. Haven’t been able to find much info on it. It looks to me like it’s more of a choir program and not much individual attention. Any insight anyone could provide is much appreciated.

We are trying to figure this out as well. From the limited info BW provides it does appear that CSI would be music-based only, unlikely to have much acting or dancing even in their MT track. I suspect the MT track will have the students learn/perform some sort of MT scene, in which case it would inherently including acting and maybe some basic movement/dance. But that also might be wishful thinking on my part. The info does say 2 private lessons. We are also considering the extra audition track, which would provide 2 additional lessons.

We are trying to figure out whether the CSI track (w/MT & audition) would be the best option or if we should sign her up for a non-audition program like the USPA music theatre workshop in Oberlin. Complicating this is that if she goes the CSI route she wouldn’t be able to go to a barbershop camp that she likes (could do both USPA and barbershop). She is willing to skip the barbershop camp to get some good MT-focused training. Just not sure whether USPA is it. They get some mixed reviews on CC.

My D is really excited about what she has seen online about the Baldwin-Wallace MT program. We have watched their Stages series on YouTube. Since she will be a rising senior next summer she could apply to the overtures program. I would love to hear from anyone who attended this past summer (2013) and would welcome any audition advice!

Hi Momagee! Did your S or D get into the BW Overtures program this past summer (2013)? I can’t find out anything about it…did they have the program? My D is interested in applying for next year…just looking for some info about the program. Thanks!

Has anybody here ever attended the BW Music Theatre Overtures summer program or applied this year? Need info about it. Thanks!

We applied this year and are waiting to hear. Have you heard or found anything as far as expected decision date? I think I saw a few years back it was the first week of April. But I can’t find anything official that states a decision date.

My daughter applied this year and on the application it says there will be a decision by May 1st.

Just curious has anybody been accepted in the Overtures program for this year. My son spoke to the office the week before last and they said we could hear a decision as early as last week.

@Jrdirectortommy‌ I haven’t hear anything yet either. When did he apply?

Applications were due (postmarked) by April 1st, and the site says people will hear by May 1st, so it may be a while.

@Ebonidmitchell‌ He submitted his application around March 15th or so. But from the post above it sounds like acceptance emails go out first and rejections later. I know the application said decisions by May 1st, but I’m guessing the acceptances will begin to go out this week based on our conversation with the office. Of course this is just a guess…I could be completely wrong. :-)

@Jrdirectortommy‌ THE WAIT IS KILLING ME! LOL :)

@Ebonidmitchell‌ Yup!!! But this is such a great program I’m guessing even super talented kids don’t get accepted! Just hoping to get lucky!

Has anyone seen a review from anyone who has attended this program recently? I ran into someone who attended 4-5 years ago and we had a great conversation about it a year ago. I would love to hear from a recent attendee.

Did anyone hear anything yet?
