I am doing poorly in my first quarter of senior year. I switched out of my Pre-Calculus class into a math class that would better suit me. This change came late, and school policy is a grade in one class follows to a new one. So, my D- in Pre-Calculus has followed me to Applied Topics in Math. The quarter will be closing on Oct. 30. My report card will show my first D EVER. Also, Physics is another problem. My teacher has trouble explaining the lessons to the class. He's one of those braniacs who can only understand his passion, but cannot help others understand it. I have a C. I can possibly bring that C up to a C+ or B-. However, these poor grades have me worried. My school sends the high school transcript, including the first quarter grades. How will colleges perceive this? My grades from previous years are good. I am worried these grades wi hurt my chances of getting into the colleges I want to attend. Also, I plan on sending a doctor's note with my applications about my disease that does lower my performance in school. How do you think the colleges will perceive this? I do not want them to think that I am making excuses for myself. By the way, I plan on majoring in Political Science.

Are the rest of your classes good? Are these two the only blunders thus far in high school? Overall, as long as the rest of your classes are solid, it won’t hurt too much.

Also, if you have a strong app already, 1 D and 1 B won’t kill you, especially if you have something to justify the low grades.

Your chances also depend on what kind of college you’re applying to

why is precalc always harder than alg2?

I am not exactly sure of my grades in my other classes. However, I was told by my Political Science teacher that I am receiving a B. I have a B+/A- in Spanish. I am unsure of my grade in Economics.
