Would love to hear from parents and students about their experiences with Ball State and their acting program. No visit to campus makes decisions so hard. Any and all info appreciated!
Very interested in this info as well
Hi, All!
I am a junior acting major at Ball State. I didn’t explore the campus until my orientation, as I’m from Nashville, TN. The campus is beautiful. I cannot emphasize that enough. People everywhere are pretty friendly and there are hidden gems in Muncie (they’re hidden, but they’re there!) But, I know you want to hear about the program, so I’ll get on with that.
The acting program is conservatory-style, so we take 2-3 different studio classes per week, each lasting about 2 hours, as well as other classes required by the major like directing, design awareness, aesthetics of theatre, etc. Your first year of training will include intense acting, movement, and introduction to voice classes. All performance classes will be taken with your small group of fellow AOs in your year (usually 12-14). No matter where you end up, this will be the hardest and most rewarding part of your training. You get to know each other REALLY well.
I frequently feel like I’m getting the kind of training you read about in acting books. We sweat until we fall, we flock, we move, we shout, we cry (a lot), and we laugh. If I haven’t been clear: it’s hard. But it’s also the most rewarding work you could ever imagine doing. And that’s the life of an artist. Ball State, inside the classroom and out, in the relationships you build with faculty and your peers, really does prepare you for the difficult life of an artist. We learn how to approach the work with hope, how to create our own work, and how to work with others.
If you have ANY more questions at all about the program or Ball State in general, feel free to contact me on Insta @alex.andra.grace
Good Luck!
Thank you for the information.
@AChopson Thank you for your insights! Sounds like a wonderful place and an incredible program.
