Ball State University...or any university...RA's BUSTING PARTIES

Who knows, they might. It more than likely won’t affect their decision if they do see it.

If you know the people that are throwing the party then it’s a good idea to just stay put until the end of the night especially if you have to go a long distance. Walking back to your dorm drunks isn’t going to get you in trouble providing that you aren’t loud and drawing obvious attention to yourself. No one is going to do routine breathalyzers.

I’ve been to one house party where the cops got called. They can ticket individuals but they usually go for the house owners because they are more responsible for underage drinking than those that are actually underage drinking especially if the party is large. They tell everyone to leave 95% of the time. I’ve only heard of the cops busting an entire party once so it is a possibility but it is rare. Cops come to parties when the neighbors complain–usually they dispatch a few cops which is not enough to catch everyone.

Just don’t be irresponsible and you’ll be fine.

Yah, the only time I’ve ever heard of people getting busted while walking home is if they appear clearly drunk (staggering, falling over, not walking straight, etc). In instances where you’re that drunk, it might just be best to try and sober up or stay put till you can walk straight. Like Vehicle said, just don’t draw attention to yourself.

Don’t party on campus. It’s generally a terrible idea - if you’re partying in the dorm, chances are the RA will catch on, and the campus police don’t really have anything better to do.

Party off campus. I’ve had cops show up to parties quite a few times for noise violations. You don’t have to let them in, and they really can’t do anything. As long as you’re not the homeowner or the one providing the liquor, you won’t get much more than a slap on the wrist. And, haha, I’ve never heard of people getting in trouble for walking home drunk at 4am, but it’s usually not a good idea. Going out to parties makes you smarter - learn your limits and plan to sober up at a certain point so you can make it home safely.

ya i guess i just have to wait and experience it myself

At my school…people do party in dorms but it is a typically small affair (in which students often get caught). When you get caught (normally because people are too loud, neighbors complain and people are shouting about alcohol/carrying it noticeably in the hallways)…you get written up (and your present alcohol dumped out). Being written up means that you will have to go to a Residence hall association meeting of your peers who determine what suitable punishment will be. Normally, on 1st violation this involves explaining what exactly happened and writing an essay on how to improve your behavior, recognizing your faults. If it is a 2nd or 3rd violation (or more), the punishment may be more grave (i.e. being put on housing probation/possibly being kicked out of the dorms). Seldom do they call in the police (however, the campus police do regularly patrol the dorms at night, so if you get caught by one of those, you are ■■■■■ out of luck. Getting caught by an RA is a lot less severe in most cases. After all, most RA’s aren’t out to get kids in trouble, but they are just doing their jobs.

Off-campus parties do occasionally get cops as well, mainly for noise violations. But even when cops break up a party (especially if it is a big one), they can’t ticket everyone so they just ask everyone to leave quietly and not cause a ruckus (those who try to sneak out the back to avoid the cops are the ones who often get MIPS). Walking home is normally okay as long as you can stand up straight and not do anything really stupid i.e. get into fights (and it is normally better if you are with some friends as well).

And to all of you who condemn drinking? Really now, grow up. More adults than not know how to drink. Loosen up and live a little. Even if booze isn’t your cup of tea, don’t look down on people who drink in moderation/socially. At least the OP is making an effort to be responsible (i.e. not getting caught doing stupid stuff).

neverletyougo- I suggest you don’t criticize other peoples opinions when you asked this on a effing CC board. seriously? people like you annoy me. is that your biggest worry in life? about getting caught drinking and whatever crap you do? damn I wish i could have worries like that. grow up.

yes that honestly is my biggest worry…because it could jepordize my future so i have to find a way to avoid it…im not afraid of actual college because i know i could do well in college if i do my work and study…which i will
