Ballet programs

Ohio University while offering BA, BFA and 3 minors in Dance is modern dance focused. They have ballet classes but no en pointe classes. They do not have ballet performances.

They have a great dance program. My daughter is a freshman there and loves it!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

HLongo, check out University of Oklahoma. During non-pandemic times, the Festival Theatre Ballet company tours. The Ballet Russes archives are at Oklahoma , and my daughter who wants to be a professional ballerina is applying there. SUNY Purchase is also affordable as another parent mentioned and UNCSA. My daughter is also applying to Butler and Indiana. On the pricey end, she applied to Tisch at NYU and Juilliard. She did not get in the latter which she is okay with as their ballet program is not their focus, but more of all dance forms. She knew the odds were against her since it is such a small program. It is possible to double major at Oklahoma.

HLongo, my daughter is also applying to Point Park as well. I think it is easier to double major at large universities, rather than smaller dance oriented schools. UNCSA would not be a good choice for a double major. My daughter is also applying to companies in case they can hire for next year. She is also auditioning for summer intensives with the thought of being asked to stay for the company or pre-pro. She would defer college if she had a good offer. She really wants to dance. We have a good friend who loves the Alvin Ailey program at Fordham, but applications are closed. there.

Has anyone heard back from the Fordham/ Ailey program? We sent 2nd round videos but we have not heard since…

Have they even viewed you videos yet? They haven’t ours. I thought I read on Fordham’s website, priority performance applications will be notified after March 1.

Hello! I just checked the views and you are right they have not even seen the videos yet!!

HLongo:

Has your dancer decided where to go? My d wants to dance ballet professionally and it is down to Butler and Oklahoma. We can’t afford Indiana; we didn’t get enough financial aid even after appealing. (They gave us some more money, but still not enough.) Thanks.
