I know there are a few mudders in it. I heard they got first at nationals? I'm not really sure...

There are two ballroom teams: the campus team, and the tour team. The tour team is the 5 (don't quote me on that...but I think it's right) time national champ in its division. Both teams practice at Pomona but are open to students from all 5Cs.

There are ballroom PE classes through Pomona which are very, very popular. Social dance, latin dance, and the like. The classes often feed the teams, especially the campus team. Again, open to students of all 5Cs.

There are also a lot of ballroom related events that happen in Claremont. There's a 5C Lindy club that meets weekly, a weekly salsa party, regular swing jams (swing bands and dancing), and an event that happens a few times per year, known as the Mudd Occasional Ball. The parties tend to have instruction followed by open dancing, and often live music. The location of the events move around, but they're generally on Pomona and Mudd.

It's a cool thing to have around campus, and something that a surprising number of people really find an interest in. It's a great way to socialize and a nice alternative to the regular social scene. That said, you will certainly not be outcast or uncomfortable if you truly can't stand ballroom dancing :p

Any contra dancing? DS learned it last summer and had a blast, esp. when he learned about the math theory behind it...

It's not something that I've heard of, but I have no idea. Odds are that if he's into it and it has interesting math theory behind it, he could definitely find an interested Mudd crowd to teach to!
