how sketchy is it?
is it easy/hard to get around?
im hearing that the campus is pretty boring and dull?

Anyone wanna bump?? Come on

Please read the old posts - I think there were discussions about this.

Yeah, do a search ... and you will find a lot of discussions about Baltimore.

Such as:
Hopkins Forums -> LIFE IN BALTIMORE

Baltimore actually has a pretty good public transit system, there are several busses that run by Hopkins and the Light Rail isn't too far. One can take the Hopkins Shuttle to the Hospital downtown and then to Bayview. It's possible to take this shuttle to penn station which is across Charles St from the Mt. Royal Light Rail stop.

All this aside, the university emphasizes the Collegetown shuttle to some degree, which allows students to travel between the Inner Harbour and Towson (basically the gentrified areas of Baltimore). The shuttle is free. Hopkins doesn't offer subsidized access to the public transportation, but I have a feeling that has something to do with the whole "wah wah wah it's dangerous out there" mentality.

Really, it's not that bad. I spent my summer living in the Mission District of San Francisco, and that was much more sketch than the areas around Hopkins. I haven't really been out in West and East, but really, if you're not involved in drug activities, you're not gonna be in messed with. Just stay smart in the sketchy areas, and keep in mind the areas around Hopkins really aren't that bad. Basically, Hopkins and the parks around it form a nice barrier between rich society to the north and like super-mildly sketch areas to the south.

But then again, it's all relative to where you grew up.

And yes the campus is pretty boring. Regardless of what people tell you. There's a bro crowd that tries to invoke some type of "normal" college experience by breaking between business behavior by binging in basements. The neighborhood doesn't seem to enjoy having college kids in its vicinity, and the Hop Cops seem to do their best to keep the peace.

^

Have to agree. I don't get how a school the size of Hopkins has so little offered in its immediate surroundings. A few scattered restaurants, bars and stores holding little real interest. Seems as though someone with a little capital and some reasonable business sense would see the opportunity here.

^Property taxes in Baltimore City and the One-Party rule prevent any business investment.

Baltimore has so much potential. Sigh.
I used to live right down the street from JHU though, and its in one of the safest, most affluent areas of the City.
That being said, one wrong turn in Baltimore can land you in some really bad areas.
