bam! you're dead. chances for a stressed senior? :)

why, hello! here's my official (and last?!) WAMC thread before i send out my apps... and i've been stressing out because i feel as if my list is too reach-based and i don't have nearly enough saftey/match schools. but eh. please help!

GPA: 3.646 weighted (this is looow, I know most demanding courseload possible, 5 APs (Chem, Euro Hist, Calc AB, Env Sci, and English Lit) + all honor courseload... top 25% of class, still. I think second decile... I do go to a very competitive public school in Massachusetts, ranked top 10-15... this would equate something like a 4.0-4.2 weighted at neigbhoring towns)

SAT I: 720V 760M 720W ~ 2200

SAT IIs: MATH IIC 760, CHEM 710, LIT 730

ECs:

I'm an artist! That is basically my (outside of school/academic) passion. I'm looking to pursue studio arts either as a minor OR as an EC in college, definitely not looking to major in it/profession in it though... and I'm sending an extensive portfolio with several award-winning pieces (Golden Globe Silver Key, etc), I've also won a few state awards in the last few years for works I've done, been published in literary magazines and the like. I took a summer oil painting course, I used to teach a small art class for children... and I've won many school-wise drawing awards also.

I have over 350+ hours of community service... I tutor 8 hours a week for underprivledged, bright middle school students looking to get into a private school, I'm a leader of an organization to promote fundraiser walks (ie Jimmy Fund), I was the assistant editor of a regional literary magazine (quite famous around this district actually, you can go buy it in stores!), and other numerous little community service clubs. I'm big into community service!

I also work about 10 hours a week... at a japanese restaurant, running errands and such!

Recs should be decent if not good/glowing. My essay is very quirky and unique, kinda different... sort of a spinoff parody on a babysitting experience that happened to me... AP English teacher liked it alot, and he's known as "mister college application essay" :) However, I'm looking to major in biochemistry... might change h/o, and minor in english or studio arts... I want to pursue premedicine because of several reasons - I used to be sick often as a child, and I had all these stomach probs and whatnot, though I'm completely well now :] That was when I was really little, haha.

I'm also an asian american female in a wealthy town in Mass with about 97% graduation rate or something, haha.

anyways, please rate my chances at these colleges - and this IS my final college list, i do believe. all are regular decision.

COLLEGE(S)
- Boston College
- Boston University
- Brandeis University
- Conn College
- UConn
- Cornell University
- UMass Amherst
- URochester
- Tufts University
- Union College
- Wesleyan University
- Williams College

I'm aware it's a lot. Haha. I thought a baker's dozen was a good number :) And I'm pretty aware of my reaches atm - BC, Cornell, Tufts, Wes and Williams mainly speaking, others range from saftey like UMass to somewhat match/reaches ie Union, CC, URochester, hopefully?

Final list? Promise?

Boston College - Match

Boston University - Low Match/Safety

Brandeis University - Match

Conn College - Match

UConn - Safety

Cornell University - Reach

UMass Amherst - Safety

URochester - Match

Tufts University - Reach

Union College - Match

Wesleyan University - Reach

Williams College - Reach

For a lot of the matches, your SATs are well above the 75th percentile for the school, which would usually make the school a Low Match or even Safety. On the other hand, your GPA and class rank are relatively low for most of the schools I listed as matches, which is why I rated them as matches. In the end, I think it will depend on your essays, perhaps interviews if you go to any, and on how much weight the individual schools put on SAT scores vs. GPA and class rank. My bet is that you'll get into half the schools I've listed as matches and all the schools I've listed as safeties. Don't think you'll get into any of the reaches though.

okay, so i lied. it's not my final list. i dropped cornell because i obviously have NO chance there at all and it's probably too hugemongous of a school pour moi. but yeaaaa...

thanks for your input :) your replies are along the lines of what i was thinking too, haha. my essay should be different/quirky, according to my ap eng teacher... not sure how my interviews will go. you really think i have no chance at any of my reaches? :( i'm well aware my GPA kinda sucks, thanks to physics...

i'm also applying as a biochem major, with possible minor in english/studio arts, if that helps at all...

precocious -

I hope you understand I'm not trying to discourage you from applying to your reaches. Your SATs and SAT2s are competitive for all those schools. As you understand, your GPA is not quite. Anyway, I should have said it was unlikely that you would get into the reaches. On the other hand, because of your test scores it is not totally impossible. Also, if your art portfolio is any good, that might tip the balance in your favor, especially at Williams which has a very good art program and, from what I understand, does make an effort to find good artists.

So, good luck. And take courage. You will certainly be going to an excellent college next fall.
