Bama area Restaurant Guide

Wait a minute! This is the Chuy’s I frequented during my UT-Austin days??? Wow! I had no idea they had expanded out of Austin!!

They opened a Chuy’s just south of Nashville about 2 years ago and another one will be opening about 3 blocks north of Vanderbilt’s campus by Christmas. All the relo’d TX people are very happy ;)

Oh yes…there’s a Chuy’s in Birmingham Alabama …at The Summit!

Has anyone been to…

Momma Goldberg’s Deli? Is it new?
409 23rd Avenue

I’ve been to the new Zoe’s Kitchen on the South End of the Stadium.

Is the University Club on Queen City Blvd now open to the public for lunch?

Sweets Cupcakes and Cakes
601 Greensboro Ave

Has anyone been to The Bear Trap?
1137 university blvd

Asian Market (is this a restaurant or a market?)
1910 Greensboro Ave

New China Restaurant
4851 Rice Mine Rd NE Ste 420

I don’t know if some of these places are new or what.

Mama Goldberg’s is a chain of sandwich sops and has been in Tuscaloosa for awhile. It’s behind Mellow Mushroom, IIRC.

There was an article in the Tuscaloosa News about Sweet’s Cupcakes, [Cupcake shop opens downtown | TuscaloosaNews.com](Kmart to lay off 700 employees) .

I’ve been meaning to go to the Bear Trap for their lunchtime Happy Hour, but have yet to go there.

Asian Market is a market.

I’ve never known the U-Club to be open to the public; it’s a private club after all. Did you hear somewhere that they might do so?

The U-Club is members only.

The University Club is listed on Urban Spoon as a restaurant to go to. It was a surprise to me.

Has anyone been to Kozy’s ?

Address: 3510 Loop Rd
Tuscaloosa, AL 35404
Phone: 205-556-0665

*If you’re lucky, you’ll score a spot in front of the large fireplace where you can relax and enjoy the company of someone special. Even if you don’t land a fireside seat, a visit to this upscale restaurant is still a must do on your trip to T-town. The varied menu includes a range of American and European cuisine such as pork tenderloin, rack of lamb, salmon and scallops. The stunning black monotone interior is set off by over 700 historic Hollywood press shots of glamorous celebs. Live music played Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.

We went to Chuck’s Fish last month. Very nice, very good food…but expect a wait on a weekend night. We sat at the bar for about an hour…which was fine…no one was super hungry. It’s located Downtown…across the street from Mugshots.

Anyone eaten at FIVE? They serve dinner til 1am! (This is good news for those who want good food very late at night!..but…dinner on Sunday ends at 9pm)

Supposedly the food is awesome, but sometimes the service can be slow.

The first thing that caught my eye was a $13 cheeseburger. this is an upscale place and this is not an ordinary burger.

The rest of the menu features 5 main entrees…and specials of the day.

THE Five:

Cheeseburger -13
w/ Five spread topping,
hand-cut fries & salad

Pan

Will be in T-town in a day or two…will go to Five.

http://www.five-restaurant.com/FIVE/Home.html
Going to also be trying that new Greek place in Midtown Village.

BTW…Huntsville is (finally!!!) getting a Panda Express…so, maybe that’s good news for T-town. PE hadn’t been in Alabama at all (I don’t think).

Now, need Whataburger!

What are the asterisks for on your hotel list above?

The Yellowhammer Inn (formerly the Warner Lodge) is at the North River Yacht Club on Lake Tuscaloosa. It’s supposed to very nice.

Some good news for fans of Hokkaido. It is rebuilding at a new location next to Taco Casa on 15th St. Hopefully the parking situation will be better…

I loved Hokkaido! Glad it’s rebuilding!

Any information on the rebuild of Krispy Kreme?

Well, it’s not Steak 'N Shake, but at least it’s open 24 hours!

mom - i hope you like taziki’s in midtown. i like it a LOT! DD would recommend anything that comes with the tomato chutney aioli (the grilled pork plate is her fave). we also tried the grilled beef and the grilled chicken plates. i liked them all. each has different sauces. the pork comes withe the yummiest sauce and also with asparagus. YUM!!
