Bama Bound exemption?

Who would the experts here recommend I contact if I wanted to see about skipping Bama Bound? As you can imagine, it’s a considerable cost for us to get to Bama from Hawaii, so I was hoping that D would be able to get the advising she needs to register over the phone. We learned about a last chance type of registration date that she could possibly do right around move-in time, but she would prefer to register as early as possible. She plans on participating in either AA or OA, so she’ll be on campus a little early, but she really doesn’t want to wait that long to register for her classes. So think this is a possibility?

There are Bama Bound sessions right before OA and AA. She can attend one of those. BB sessions are held over summer…I think there are about 20 of them…all thru the summer.

PM or call me, Rose. I may have some info that would be of help to you.

Thanks! I meant to ask you details about that yesterday, but forgot to do it before we left. Talk to you soon.

The 2011 dates have not yet been published, but to get an idea, here are the 2010 dates

[Parent Orientation](http://parentorientation.ua.edu/orientation/dates.html)

Hello, Rose808. To help accommodate our students who travel from far away to attend The University of Alabama, we do hold orientation sessions up until the days before fall semester courses begin. These sessions are called the “Final Sessions,” and there are two, the first is for transfer students and the second is for freshman students. The exact dates for Bama Bound 2011 will become available on February 1, and can be found here: [Bama Bound Orientation - The University of Alabama](http://orientation.ua.edu/). Hope this helps!

I think what she wants to know is if it’s possible that her daughter can register for her classes before going through Bama Bound.

If she has to wait until the last session then most of the good class times will have filled up and she’ll be picking through leftovers.

Bama holds back seats for each Bama Bound so that each group has some seats to select from. This last August, those who went to the last BB seemed to be able to get the classes they needed.

Thanks everyone. Yes, what NJBama stated is her main concern. She wants to attend the very first session, but she’s not paying the airfare  I had heard that they hold back classes, but it just seems hard to believe that there will be a good selection just days before school starts. We’ve got time to figure things out, though, so thanks!

Rose808: First, Happy Thanksgiving! Second, there will be classes available for your daughter. Many times freshmen need to make changes in their fall schedules because of their AP/IB scores or if they take a summer class that transfers. This does open spots for others to switch classes. Often new sections of honors seminars are added following the initial registration time. Also, if she needs a particular class for her major, she can always e-mail a professor or adviser and ask if a spot can be opened, because she is registering later.

Very good info.

That is good info. Thank you!! And Happy Thanksgiving to you too :)
