Bama Bound questions University of Alabama

My daughter and I are going to be attending the Bama Bound orientation over the summer. Can someone tell us about your experience and what exactly you did? I know you register for classes there. I know there is a website that tells you the good and not so good professors. If she is registering there, how will she know if she’s registering with a good professor or not?

We would just like all the info on Bama Bound and how you liked it.Thank you and ROLL TIDE!!! =]

You may want to try posting this on the University of Alabama forum. It is very active. You will find some great advice.

Definitely post in the Alabama subforum for more input.

My D is a current freshman and we had a good Bama Bound experience. You can look up the classes that are offered in the fall on MyBama now. There’s a link for “Look Up Classes” in the middle column of the home page. You’ll be able to see who is teaching the class - there are some TBAs for certain classes, but for the most part the professors are known. You can then research the profs on the various sites that rate professors. You’ll want to figure out a plan and a couple backup plans before you go. My D had all of the classes she wanted laid out on a grid so she could make sure she didn’t have time conflicts and that she had enough time between classes to get from one to another. She also had lists of alternatives in case she couldn’t get her first choices. She ended up getting the classes she wanted with the teachers she wanted, but if you don’t, you can still play around with the schedule over the course of the summer. Kids move around and make changes all summer, so if you keep checking on MyBama you can often find a spot in a class you weren’t able to get at Bama Bound.

Here’s a link to the tentative schedule for Bama Bound that will give you an idea of what you’ll be doing there: http://orientation.ua.edu/details/schedules/2013-freshman-schedule.pdf

Looks like someone put your thread on the UA board.

What session are you going to attend? What is your D’s major?

I went to BB with my D 2 years ago. We came in a day early since we are OOS. I stayed in the dorms with some other moms. I will tell you that it is hot in June.

My D was advised the first day and registered for classes on the second day. Everything went well for her. Definitely have your D’s schedule planned out. Have some alternate classes in mind in case she doesn’t get the classes she wants. Keep in mind that her schedule can be tweaked after she registers.

Once BB is over you can start shopping!! Hope that helps. Roll Tide!!
