My name is Kat and I will be attending the University of Alabama next fall. I live in San Diego so the style is very laid back and casual. I pretty much wear shorts/jeans and a tshirt/hoodie all year. Plus I go to a catholic school so I have to wear a uniform which makes my closet basically empty and me that much more clueless about fashion. I have no idea what kind of clothes to buy! Please help me!

I don’t got to Bama, but I do go to LSU and can hopefully give you some insight in the weather down south. It’s hot and it’s humid almost all year. The humidity is worse than the heat, and combined makes for an uncomfortable time if you’re not dressed properly. Tees and shorts are pretty much a staple down here. Winters are mild and summers are usually brutal. I’d stick with tees and shorts, and also have some jeans/pants and some outerwear for the winter months.

Also, I’m not sure if you’re into football and tailgating, but those two are some pretty big traditions here at LSU, and I’m pretty sure they are at Bama, too. Normal tailgate attire for girls are sundresses and belts, sandals, etc.

Bama has a forum you can check:

I go to a school in the UA system, and basically everybody dresses however they want. You’ll see anything from sundresses and heels to jeans and ratty t-shirts. Same as any other school.

I go to another southern school, but I’d say most girls at my school either wear t-shirts/gym shorts/leggings to class or get really dressed up and wear a dress or a nice blouse and a skirt or jeans or shorts.

It’s pretty much all over the place. I don’t think you can really stick out. I’d imagine it’s the same at Bama.

And I’ll echo football attire. You’ll want to make sure you have some dresses for games. I’m pretty sure the majority of southern schools get decked out for tailgating.

Tuscaloosa can be quite cold in the winter, so you will need a heavy jacket, gloves and a cap a few times from December through March and a lighter-weight jacket at other times. It can snow, but it’s usually just a dusting that’s gone by afternoon.
Mostly it rains. Umbrella, rainboots, raincoats are necessary! Girls here love the knee-high leather boots. Cowboy boots are worn with sundresses to football games. Norts and big 'ol tank tops for class and warm weather wear, but when they dress up, they REALLY dress up.

Are you planning in rushing? sorority attire I believe is more dressy at games than the non Greek. On my visits the girls seem to mainly wear Nike shorts and oversized t shirts. Hair up in a messy bun or a pony when going to class.
