Bama women 3rd in Capital Cup standings

<p>TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – Three national championships have vaulted the Alabama women’s athletics program to third place in the final Capital One Cup standings, the highest finish in school history.</p>

<p>Stanford and UCLA finished ahead of the Crimson Tide, which led Southeastern Conference schools. LSU finished fourth and Florida finished ninth. </p>

<p>Alabama is in fourth place in the men’s standings, which will be announced after the baseball season ends with the College World Series.</p>

<p>The Crimson Tide earned 100 points in the women’s rankings. A second consecutive national championship in gymnastics was followed by the first national championship in women’s golf in school history. That was followed by the first national championship in school history. In late May, Alabama wasn’t even ranked in the top 20.</p>

<p>All of it followed a national championship in football, Alabama’s second in the past three years.</p>

<p>The Alabama women tied for 18th last year.</p>

<p>Before this academic year, the Tide had won 18 national team titles between football and gymnastics, but never more than one in an academic year.</p>

<p>The Alabama women’s soccer and tennis team’s also advanced to NCAA tournament competition this season. The tennis team was ranked as high as No. 7 and played host to an NCAA regional for the first time.</p>
