How competitive is the concert band? About how many students are in it and do you have to audition?

Also, are there any marching or pep or jazz bands at MIT? And if there are, how would I find/audition for them?

Oh, I play trombone, if that makes any difference...

I can’t answer the other questions first hand, but we do have a Marching Band. Try googling the others on the MIT website :)

Neither the marching band nor the concert band require auditions:

There are lots of music opportunities available. My son is in MITSO (symphony orchestra) and receives (free) piano lessons via the Emerson program (both required auditions). He was in an a cappella group (actually asked to join more than one) and considered joining an ensemble. There were other options - without auditions needed - available as well.

If I’m thinking of the same concert band you are, not at all. It’s for people who enjoy playing their instruments in being in the band.

I’m actually more interested in auditioning for the Wind Ensemble…
