<p>What’s up my fellow Brown hopefuls?
One of the thing’s I’m looking forward to most of about college is meeting other young musicians and starting a kick-ass band!
So, I thought I’d start a thread for all us musicians to write about what instruments we play, what kinds of music we like, our favorite bands, and whatever else comes to mind.</p>
<p>Let me get things started:</p>
<p>I’m Adam, and I play guitar (nothing like whippin’ out the acoustic guitar at parties, especially in college I’m sure) and piano and I sing.
I like most kinds of music, especially alternative rock and the indie-rock movement that’s become ever so popular lately, and I have an inexplicable interest in pop-punk.
My favorite bands are all very different: Counting Crows (especially their early stuff,) Red Hot Chili Peppers, Oasis, Ben Folds Five, and Something Corporate.
I’d like to be in a band with a chill sound (like RHCP).
And the purpose of being in a band? To get chicks, of course.</p>
<p>Oh and everyone has to list one of these–
A band I liked before they were popular: Maroon 5 </p>
<p>Well, I tried to play drums, but as soon as both feet and hands were required I discovered I just didn't have the coordination. I can play Smells like Teen Spirit though :).</p>
<p>I also play cello but that doesn't really belong in a band...</p>
<p>I like basically any music that I can sing along to, with a special soft spot for country and alternative rock. And Eminem just to mix it up. </p>
<p>I liked Bowling For Soup before they were popular (before 1985 came out)</p>
<p>Sadly, our tastes are very different. I really don't like any music mentioned here =/ For the most part, I only play metal on an electric guitar. I also play classical, but that has no place in a band.</p>
<p>"the purpose of being in a band? To get chicks, of course"</p>
<p>Shame on you. It's for the love of the music! That's it, you are officially out of my Brown band! :p</p>
<p>Zox sure seems to attract the floozies, from looking at their photos. Pink miniskirt alert.</p>
<p>Eminem? Ewwwww. You have to be kidding!</p>
<p>God puts people like Eminem on to earth to see who will be dumb enough to actually listen to him. Then he smites them. ;)</p>
<p>also, i have a really nice acoustic guitar sitting in my room that I wish i knew how to play, but sadly don't lol...it'll be my goal for the summer</p>

Haha, really? I actually bought an acoustic guitar last summer, fully intending to take lessons and learn it. But I'm so lazy I've only practiced on it twice (and not since August) and it's been collecting dust since. I also have a goal to learn it this summer...</p>
<p>Oh yeah, my brother was an amateur guitar player before he went to college. Two years later, he's pretty damn good at it. Those boring weekends really got him practicing a lot.</p>
<p>adumm...I have applied to Brown for the RUE program (it's for adults over 25 years old who want to complete their degree).
The reason I am going back to complete the last two years of my degree is, one..because I wasn't able to right after high school due to personal reasons, but two...because I had a band that toured around Texas and we released two tapes (yes, back in the early 90's, tapes were still readily available) which never really made it out of Texas.
Anyway, I have played bass for 19 years, although I have several acoustic guitars that I write songs on. I have three basses (1 electric, 1 acoustic bass, and 1 fretless) and two acoustic-electric guitars.
If I am admitted into Brown for the fall of '05, I am hoping to find some fellow musicians to play and write songs with. I would like to play in local coffee shops around town.
The pop/alternative star, Dunkan Sheik graduated from Brown. He started playing around the Providence area while attending Brown.
Plus, the guitar player from the Mighty Mighty Boss Tones went to Brown, as well.
I like all of the bands that are listed in the above posts (although, I seem to like them more before they make it big).
Musicians going to Brown, let me know...</p>
<p>good stuff, plus I always wanted to be one of those cool guitar playing college kids haha</p>
<p>and it would be awesome to be able to play all the songs i love (i'm terrible nerd and look up the tabs to songs i like, even though I have no idea how to play them lol...they'll be useful one day though damnit)</p>
<p>You into the ska thing? I"m really into suicide machines, reel big fish, mighty mighty bosstones, etc. But also Against Me, RHCP, Oasis, Jack Johnson, Los Lonely Boys, Buena Vista Social Club, and Lyfe. Anyways, I play acousitc guitar. Hopefully I will see you at Brown.<br>
And I liked Modest Mouse way more before they became super famous.</p>
