We wondered if there no fee cash machines on campus? Which national banks have branches in the Claremont Village?

There's a Bank of America ATM in the Smith Center: http://www.pomona.edu/smithcampuscenter/services/atm.shtml. There's also a BOA branch in Claremont Village as well as branches of California Bank & Trust and Wells Fargo. Foothill Independent Bank is up on Foothill Boulevard: http://claremontchamber.org/cw_1040.htm.

is there a wachovia anywhere by any chance?

Not according to the Wachovia website.

thanks for the info!

What do those of you on the east coast do for money? Do you have a checking account out west or anything like that?

D went with Bank of America since there are branches and ATMs virtually everywhere. We opened up the account at a local (home) branch. With national banks, it doesn't matter where the account is opened; you can get access for deposits and withdrawals wherever there's a branch/ATM.

What sort of account does your daughter have? My parents and I are debating about whether or not I should go with a debit card or just a regular savings account.

Whichever account you open, your ATM card can also serve as a debit/credit card (Visa). From what I understand, if you use it as a credit card, you (1) will not incur a service charge on your account and (2) will not be liable for any fraudulent use. It will still be deducted automatically from your account.
