I heard about this program through my counseling department at school. It sounds really interesting and I already started on my essays. Has anybody ever done this program and if so do you have any advice that would help me with my essays? I have over 100 volunteering hours, especially from church. Am I under-qualified? Any tips or advice would be much appreciated. Also who else is applying and from which market? I'm from the Chicago market.

I got in two years ago from a different region. I think I had 150 hours. What really matters though is having good essays. A strong reason behind why you volunteer and where is better than having hundreds of volunteer hours.

Although I was accepted, I did not attend the program due to a conflict so I unfortunately cannot add anything else. Good luck!

Im applying for this year’s also and have about 300 hrs combined from the past two years. But what should i make sure to have in my essays and should they be essay format?

Has anyone participated in this program? How was the experience?

Yes how do essays go? How do we answer them? as formal as our personal statements? or do we just simply go straight to the point?

Also how do we find out which market we are under?

Hey everyone!

I’m trying to write the essays now, but I’m not sure if my Gold Award counts as a single “activity”. Can I list that as a volunteer activity? It’s a community service award with a required 65 hours of work put into a service project of your choice. I led a group of volunteers in helping a local kid’s summer camp at my church. I really would like to focus on this in the essay asking you to go into more detail on a leadership role you had, but i’m not sure if that fits the requirements. It asks you to name the “organization” and its role in the community. The camp isn’t exactly something like Habitat for Humanity. Help?

Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone!

I was a Bank of America Student Leader last year, and I can personally attest to the fact that this opportunity is INCREDIBLE, and you won’t find many like it. The students that you meet become your life-long friends (I still Skype with BOAs all the time), you create a network of students among colleges, and you learn truly what it means to be a leader.
In terms of the application, I suggest you be as real as possible. The motto of Bank of America is to Serve, Inspire, and Change. Whatever you’re doing to inspire others and create a change in your community, be sure to mention it! Don’t be modest, put your best foot forward. If you need any help with anything, just shoot me a message!

Good luck, and no matter what happens know that you’re a leader :)

Joeberv: how did you format your essays? did you just simply answer them straight to the point?

Hey I just submitted my application for the program. My counselor is going to directly email my letter of recommendation to them.
I haven’t received an email with my Request ID number yet. When does the email come? I need to provide my counselor with the number for her to officially send it.
Thanks!

I think I posted this in another BOA thread, but I’m applying from the Orange County market too :o

It took about 30 mins to an hour for the number to come in for me. I am applying from the Atlanta market.

Hey guys, what if i had already submitted my application but I have an extra letter of rec i didnt get to attach? should i just tell my recommender to email it?

For people with past experience, can you give a rough estimate of the internship dates? Did it start in June or July?

Hello, I’m from the Atlanta market and I’m also applying for BoA13. I’m worried most about my essays- can someone who got accepted an earlier year tell me if the essays are better off sounding neat and nice, or should I not focus on diction as much and instead talk about my passion?

These are barely even essays, 1000-2000 characters really isn’t that much room to write about in these responses.

@timewizard
Well of course, but seeing as these questions are being referred to essays in these posts, I went along with it.
Either way, my question is still at hand. Focus on passion or diction?

I’m not sure if this answers your question but i’ll post it anyway. I personally didn’t attend the program, but a friend of mine went last year. He loved it and talked about his experience/application at a recent FBLA meeting. He said that academia doesn’t matter that much. Its all about service and inspiring change. Applications should show your character and commitment to community service. From what he told me, I’d focus on passion.

@thank you kitkat8127! Any feedback helps! :)

No problem. Hope that helps

What are some challenges in your community that you spoke of?
