I also posted this on the financial aid board.

I have a question regarding the financial statement/financial aid forms. This forms ask the "parents' cash, savings and checking". Do my parents need to provide a letter or statement from the bank where they have their account ? Thanks in advance.

yup.. u need to create a letter of statement from the bank.. but it depends on which school u are applying.. some of them need the letter before admission.. but others will let u send it after admission

well, if you are sending the certificate of finance or the international students financial aid application to the school, you must attach the bank statement to certify that you have such and such amount of money as you write down in the form. Just go to the bank and it will give you the statement.

do international students need to send a statement showing month by month transaction...or simply saying tht the current balance is this much dollars.

I asked princeton abt this while applying and they said that they did NOT need any documents to support the financial aid forms.. they said that they would need it only after the admission decision is done.

ishin, as I know, the statement includes name of the sponsor, date of opening the account and current balance.
rm1987, yeah, Pton is different. They use their own form.

The bank statement you get every month isn't for sending to colleges. It shows all your transactions for that particular month. The bank statement that you need to send to colleges you have to ask from the bank. It shows only the date you opened your account, total balance, and name of the owner of the account. And, yes, you'll need to pay for it. The bank charged me about $3 each, which is pretty cheap compared to what you said above ($30 - $60), but I guess it's different from country to country and from bank to bank.

Yeah, I was charge $2 each. It was still too expensive for me. So I asked for only one, took it to a government agency, got 10 copies and paid $1 for all :P

Hey, I think I kinda generalized. I was thinking about myself. My application says that they want a bank letter, not a bank statement (which shows the transaction), so I had to get the letter from my bank. However, it may be different on your application. If the college you're applying to only wants to see the balance and doesn't specify that it must be a bank letter, then I think you can send in the bank statement (which you get every month). Sorry for the confusion!

I don't know anything about an Internet savings account, but I think it works the same way.

Bank statements are the ones without the transactions and includes the sponsor name (you), when account was open and current balance. The ones they send to you every month isn't what they're asking for. And yah, the banks do charge it (mine charges $4 for one or seomthing but I scanned and printed a whole bunch of copies and had my counselor stamp this certification thing).
