I was wondering -what bank do most students recommend opening an account with on campus? thanks in advance

I use Etrade. Unlimited ATM fee refunds - meaning I can withdraw money from any ATM (from any bank) and not get charged anything. Makes things so much easier than having an account at just a single brck and mortar bank.

But if you don't want to go for the online thing, then M&T Bank has a physical location in Williard Straight Hall and ATMs on North.

my dad applied me for CFCU Community Credit Union...is M and T better?

There will be several banks on campus during Orientation so you don't need to worry about opening an account until you get here. There is Banks of America, HSBC, M&T, CFCU, Chase(a little off campus). HSBC also has an ATM in WSH too.

BoA or M&T is your best bet.

Bank of America is best if you are not from the Tri-State area or East Coast...

Sure only M&T has ATMs on north campus, but one doesnt really need money all the time...

so if you have M&T in your hometown use M&T, but if you have Bank of America use that...basically whatever your parents have access to (b/c they will be depositing you money)

thanks for all the responses.- Since BOA or HSBC are in my area-it will probably save me time during the orientation process to open an account before arriving- it just seems to me that things will be hectic enough during orientation. Agree-disagree?

Does anyone think/know any reason or benefit to wait until orientation?

wait wait wait...where is there a Chase???? are you sure....

wait do you mean chasewood or w/e? that's not chase... lol

and ps hsbc is way cooler...they have an atm in wsh and a closeby branch and are just generally ghetto fabulous. boa is just bootlegged.

i'm pretty sure there is not a chase. I use chase at home and m&t at school. so when I need money in my m&t account, I just write checks to myself from my chase account and deposit them into m&t. then my parents put money into my chase account.
also, wherever you can us a debit card to by stuff, you can usually get cash back too. so you could get by at cornell w/o a local bank account (it really is surprising how little (real) money you spend)

M&T because there is an ATM right on North Campus (where you'll live). There's also a branch on central campus w/ an ATM. The Total Free checking is a pretty good deal.
