Banking

What bank do students usually use while on campus? I am looking at setting up an account, but what bank should I do it with?

Wachovia has a branch & ATM on campus. Worked great for D, who just graduated in May.

My son just received “new student/open your account with us” junk mail from Wachovia. It seemed like WFU shared the incoming class list with the bank.

I’m sure they did. During Freshmen Orientation there are a number of banks with sign-up tables upstairs in Benson. Since Wachovia is on campus, though, it makes sense that Wake would promote them. By doing the paperwork ahead of arrival, students can avoid some of the “first day chaos.”

Yes, Wachovia (Wells Fargo) is by far the easiest, particularly if you don’t have a car. I had an incident when I overdrew my checking account $500.* I called the lovely folks at Wachovia in near tears and they gave me back I think 80% of my overdrew fees.

*Long story…it was during finals week and I wasn’t paying attention.
