@astrogirl still nothing for us either and we live in Maryland! The lady I talked to yesterday said to call Monday and they will tell us status over the phone My D is so anxious waiting so I know how you feel

Isn/t it pretty much a given that if you are invited for an interview then you will be offered either a one-half or full ride award

@3KIDSLAM wait you called and they didn’t tell you anything? Instead they told you to call again on Monday? That’s weird…

@astrogirl I waited for mail to come on Friday so I didn’t call until 4pm. By that time most people were gone. The person who answered said she could not access the status information and told me to call back Monday. She said they’ve had situations in past where letters have been lost in mail so someone should be able to tell me status on Monday. It’s so frustrating that we can’t see it online or in an email

:( I agree… They should post them online or do something… Oh well, I guess I will have to call on Monday. Thanks!

Dumb question, but: son got the envelope Thursday (partial B-K) but now we can only find 1 page, whereas I have a (vague) memory of there being 2 pages in the envelope. (The page we have is a letter that starts off “Congratulations! I am pleased to inform you…” and is signed by Wallace D. Loh, President.)

Can anyone else who got a partial B-K confirm whether there were 2 pages or just 1 for the partial folks? (Also, although I think there may have been 2 pages in the envelope, I don’t remember there being any “certificate” in there, which some posters here have mentioned. What is the certificate like? Something that you would frame?)

Itllbeok: there’s only one page for partial Banneker/Key. No certificate. So much for “we make no distinction between full and partial scholars.” Couldn’t send the silly certificate?

It is indeed one page for the partial.

@PAMACO & @ThatKidYouKnow: Thanks so much for confirming the 1-page deal for partial B/K. I had this total (false) memory of seeing another page.

Booo for no certificate. I agree, “no distinction” sounded nice – but looks like there is a bit of a dividing line… Oh, well, maybe they’ll make “no distinction” when it comes to more important things?

Are most of you guys who have received notification from MD/other parts of the east? I’m quite anxious because if I get the full, I’m 99% sure I’ll attend.

@nhdmaniac did you receive notification? I haven’t… I am starting to get really anxious because I want to enroll so bad in UMD, but I need to receive if I was full or partial…

@nhdmaniac, we’re in MD

I actually have a question. If someone doesn’t take a full B/K scholarship because they’ll attend another school, where does the money go?

@astrogirl I live in HI so I’m planning on being the last to know. (I didn’t even get the BK packet until the Friday before the responding deadline, which was a Monday.)

Me too! @nhdmaniac I live in the Caribbean… so it seems as if we were on the same boat… We’ll just have to wait until tomorrow (fingers crossed)!

We are in MD, too. I believe someone was told that they could get results via phone tomorrow.

@JanAnna My guess is that UMD can’t actually afford to give everyone offered a B/K scholarship a B/K scholarship. They do math analyses to figure out approximately how many people will accept the scholarship and how many will decline, and then tailor that to how many they want to enroll. So if they knew that for example, if historically 50% of people offered a full accept the full ride and don’t enroll elsewhere, and they could afford for 60 full rides, they’d send out 120 fulls (these are all example numbers, btw). So likely, the money goes nowhere because this extra money doesn’t exist.

What other colleges are you guys considering in addition to UMD?

I was considering MIT but even with their finanicial aid package, it was way too expensive, and I’m still kinda considering USC and Rice since I haven’t gotten their financial aid package and have received some scholarships to both, but getting a complete full ride to UMD has pretty much made up my mind.

@nhdmaniac Thanks! That really makes sense.

I’m considering Cornell, but since financial aid was really good, I probably won’t go to UMD unless something happens to change my mind.

I’m considering Princeton, which gives me wonderful fin aid so UMD BK is out of consideration now.
If I went to UMD I wouldn’t have to work and worry about books though T_T
