Banneker/Key Scholarship

Will UM notify people if they are a semi finalist for this award when they mail out the decision letters in January?

Fear the Turtle!

OP, if you get an invite, it will come a few weeks later.

Good luck

I just got accepted to the Honors College. It looks like that means I am only in consideration for the scholarship. Anyone know if I would get a lesser scholarship if not invited to the Banneker/Key interviews?

@troy, although B/K’s are chosen only from the Honor’s College, other large scholarships can go to anyone. They will trickle out over time. Best of luck.

Generally, those kids who are considered for B/K are also those who are probably considering offers from Ivies, or full ride scholarships elsewhere. Either uber-high GPA’s, SATs, or something unique/awesome that sets them apart from the crowd. When we went to the B/K interview day, many times the people speaking acknowledged that they KNEW the B/K invitees had great offers from lots of schools. Maybe this will help put it into perspective.

Just like there are people who are admitted to extremely competitive schools based on other factors besides GPA and SAT, the vast majority are those students at the very top. All the other merit aid offers are largely based on GPA/SAT/class rank and are the students that the school sees as the best prospective students to succeed.

Good luck to all.
