WASHINGTON - Senator Barack Obama took his first step into the Democratic presidential race today by opening an exploratory committee to raise money and begin building a campaign designed "to change our politics." He said he would make a formal declaration Feb. 10 in his home state of Illinois.

Yippeeeeee!!!!

Haha, yeah. Has anybody thought of maybe an Edwards/Obama campaign? It would give Obama some needed experience, which could then enable him to run in 2008/2012. You could also have an Obama/Edwards, I guess.

I'd go for an Obama/Edwards. Obama needs to be the presidential candidate.

Every time I hear Obama, I think "Osama". It's frustrating :D.

try Barack HUSSEIN Obama, does that make it easier?

but seriously, I'm wary of his lack of experience

I think it's ridiculous to make an issue out of the similarity in names.

Looks like the media hates Barack. MSNBC, Yahoo, and CNN all "accidentally" mixed up his name with Osama's. CNN also had an additional segment comparing Obama's dress style with that of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. FOX News also cut to a video of a pro-Obama rally while doing a report on some sex offender (that one's not really surprising).

I'm all for him though. Obama '08!

I'm excited. He's from my state! With all the corrupt politicians in Illinois, it's nice to have Obama around.

Wasn't Lincoln inexperienced too, look how that went...

Clinton, Obama, or Edwards would all make fine presidents.

About time, He will be an awesome president!

Why is his experience in public office an issue? Let’s say if he did stay for another term, what would another 1000 hrs in the senate do for him?

I'm a moderate, but I think it would be interesting to see him run.

Clinton- No. Just no.
Edwards- Enough experience, but I don't know...
Obama- Looking rosy now.

Make him more corrupt, that's what.

dress style with Ahmadinejad? Uh, maybe if Ahmadinejad dressed like all of the mullahs (I say this with respect to the theocracy, I'm just saying), but he dresses like a regular western businessman. Barack looks like every other senator.

And I like Obama...alot. He's my senator, anyway. I think that if he should run for president, it should be NOW, and not in 2012 (when there might be a democrat incumbent, anyway). But...I don't know if I'd vote for him in the primaries. I'm still kinda skeptical. Plus I'm still mourning the fact that Russ dropped out of the race. :( He's my favourite senator.

From the Dems side, he would be the best candidate, unless he teams up with Hillary. Btw, did you guys know he also smokes? Not that the habit is reason to vote against him but still, you never hear about it...

This has to come up in this thread sooner or later, so here goes...
how big of a factor do you think his race will be?

I think it will be brought up how 'groundbreaking' his campaign is.

Harold Ford for VP!

For the Democrats, we've got Obama, who's black, and Clinton, who's a woman. For the Republicans, we've got Rice, who's - a black woman! Whaddayah think of that?
