Barack Obama, now the Senator-elect from Illinois, and one of very few (I think 3 or 4) black Senators since Reconstruction, went to Harvard Law School. If he ran for President, and you went to Harvard (most seniors here would be seniors in college when he runs), would you work on his campaign?

He's only the third black senator since reconstruction, and he might be the only one at the moment (but don't quote me on that--I think I saw it on the news, but I watched so much of it yesterday that I may be mistaken)

I don't know that much about him, but the Economist likes him, and I saw him on TV at 5 AM--seemed very smart and principled, but that could have been the sleepless fog talking.

Anyway, I'm independent (leaning Republican), so to some extent it depends on who he's running against :) But he seems like a good guy and like someone who I could see myself supporting, or at least being the 'loyal opposition' for.

He is the only black in the Senate now. Illinois is also home of the first black woman elected to the senate, Carolyn Mosley-Braun.
Obama is the first black to have been editor of the Harvard Law review.
Look for him to get fast-tracked by the party; he'll probably get some pretty nice committee assignments for a freshman.

I really hope he doesn't get paired with Hillary in 2008 like everyone seems to want. As cool as that ticket would be, it would have a 0% chance to get elected... especially after what we saw this year.

I'm with you, justforgetme, but more because I don't like Hillary than because I don't think she's electable.

Any guesses on who's going to be in the democratic primaries next year beyond Edwards (duh, look at that "concession" speech), Hillary, and maybe Obama?

I want Jon Stewart! Where have all the Democrats gone? I think I could name more Republicans that I'd like to see as President (McCain!!) than Democrats... and I'm definitely a liberal. What we need is another Clinton... a charismatic, moderate Democrat from the South. I just don't think one exists.

One does, his name is Harold Ford Junior hes a representative from Tennessee, running for the US Senate seat in Tennessee in 2006...hes only 34 or 35 years old, was elected to the House at age 26, and is a very, very moderate Southern black Democrat (a Blude Dog in fact, he's real good at working with others across teh aisle)....his name has been passed around for the presidential nomination, but not until 2016 or 2020, when he's got enough gray hairs and political chits to make a dash for it.

by the way haithman.... EAST AFRICA REPRAZENT!!!

btw gatsby...how was working for obama? did you like it? email me lemme know im interested in helping him run for president

and no way in hell would i vote for hillary clinton

Obama '12!!!
(As a Tennessean, I'm so tired of our "Democrats..." they're only marginally less slimy than our "Republicans," who tend to be either fascists or anarchists in disguise...)

ok anywys i just wanted us to all reflect on how leet haxor barack obama is ....he was in the new york times today talking about the future of the democratic party and what he wants to do with taxes

its so awesome...hes like the only democrat with alot of popular support right now
