When I check my BARC statement, I can see that I've been charged for various things, like orientation, room and board, undergrad tuition etc;

I was forced to get the stupid school health insurance.

I've already received Freshman Scholarship, Pell Grant, and UC Grant. However, my Cal Grant hasn't showed up on here yet. Was it supposed to? Some of my friends already got their cal grant payments.

What about any of you? If you were supposed to get Cal Grant (specifically, Cal Grant B, because that's what I have) did you get it already?

On a side note, I was charged fully for Orientation even though I applied for the fee waiver, and quite early. I dont' see why I didn't get the discount, because my EFC is zero, and I was put into EOP based on needing financial aid. What the hell is up with that?

You have until Sept. 1 to waive the health insurance. (I was charged too and still plan to waive; like $300?)

I got Cal Grant B, but funds will not be disbursed until the governor approves until end of August or later.

I was also disbursed the grants and scholarship.

I totally forgot about my reduction for Orientation, I should check that out. Most likely we will be refunded later on. (like $450 total, or maybe I already got it?)

My EFC is also 0. I don't think I specifically applied for EOP and was surprised to find out I was put in there. At least I made some friends at the EOP meeting. (just more resources? i didn't really see any point to it unless you want a small writing class)

UCSB ended up being more expensive than I thought... the budget they put together on the UCSB fin aid website is actually spot on. I spoke with someone from UCSB on this forum, and they told me that even if I had chosen to live on campus, total expenditures shouldn't exceed 22,000. Boy, was he wrong!

For Fall quarter alone I owe 3100, as of right now. After our Cal Grants come in, I should owe about 600. This is after all the "free" money... meaning I have to take out loans to pay off that 600. Then, I need to get books and money to live off of while I'm there.

Price-wise, I really should have gone to Cal Poly Pomona or CSU Fullerton.

Yeah, tuition is already on there. I'm pretty sure we've been billed for everything.

So, you owe 3.5k not including Cal Grant refund, huh? That's similar to me.

Sigh... I really didn't want to have to take out loans. This is a bummer. I can't waive out of school health insurance either. They told me that in previous years, they took Medi-Cal and that this is the first year they're not accepting it. I call it BS, because it's supposed to help the families that receive it anyway. By not accepting it, they are forcing those in need to buy health insurance, when the point of getting it in the first place was because you couldn't afford to get real insurance.

Did anyone get the Federal Direct Loan - Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans? I qualified and accepted and they haven't disbursed either of the two, and haven't attempted to. They 'Attempted' to disburse my Perkins loan but couldn't and the message reads 'Promissory Note.' I mailed that in a few days ago though. Hopefully it goes through soon.

But I'm sort of nervous about the first two. Why aren't they acting on it? And where do my loans get disbursed? I didn't see anything about setting up a bank account for them to go to, so I assume they go straight to my BARC but I don't know if that's correct....

Also, I just looked at my Award Letter and the Loan section is completely blank! Is that because I already accepted them all or did they take them away? Ahh that's scary!

Yea it sucks to pay $300+ for insurance. Was that estimated in the budget?

I was offered like $1400 for the Perkins Loan and $3500 for the Direct Subsidized.

I decided to accept them both, so I inputed the values in the tab at the site.
But I didn't submit like promissory note or did the interview (Perkins.) I didn't even look at the links for the Direct Loan.

AND then, I come back the next day to proceed accepting it. And now it only offers the Perkins Loan. It says: "you do not have any remaining student loan eligibility."

So crap. I hope it comes back when I submit the MPN.

I'm also going to have to accept all of the loan money. But, I don't understand what would happen if I only accept let's say, 600 dollars under the Perkins loan. What will happen to the rest of it? Will I still be able to receive it later?

All I know is that there is no deadline to accept the loans. But accepting it through the award letter is weird, because they let you accept the "full" amount, instead of only letting you accept the max for fall quarter.

I need some clarification, I'll call the financial aid office monday morning, otherwise, does anyone else know more information about this?

HI, I checked out my fin aid and it says that ur aid has been credited to ur barc acc. but I dont see it credited! so what should I do? does this happened to anyone else too?

well CA didnt approve the state budget as yet! so thats why it says not confirmed! dont worry....its same for everyone! i hope they will approve it sooner!

On the 20th, I got another University Grant -- I believe this is the supplement to my Cal Grant B, which hasn't been "approved'' yet according to other members.

I now owe 725.81 for first quarter.

I'm considering opting out of UCSB in favor of Cal Poly Pomona.
