Hello, I am from Russia, and want to study in the USA in the future,I don’t know what to do:to try to go to college for barch (I have 2 years for preparation, but I am affraid that it will be difficult for me:other culture, other people and etc) or to finish the barch program in my country and to try to go for graduate in such university like Harvard or MIT and others. On the side I am affraid that I heard very interesting information about cultural life and traditions of the USA universities,I think it is very interesting for me. (It is not excited in Russian universities)Also I affraid that if go in the USA only for graduate program ,I will have less chance to get a good job than if I finished barch+grad in the USA.Please, advise me what to do
P.s.Thanks advance)))
Architecture is a licensed profession in the USA and in many other countries - if you plan to work in Russia or some other country you need to make sure whatever degree - from MIT or South Galapagos State University - will be recognized otherwise…
If there are tests involved you may find that what they teach here and there is different. My daughter just finished her BA Arch and headed to grad school. They did not touch concrete structures anywhere near as much as we did in my country (I did Civil Engineering). If she had to take a licensing test there she would not fare well. The tests here are based on USA construction methods and practices (“what’z drywall??”).
Also make sure you understand what’s involved in the admissions process. My daughter had no problem getting admission to well respected graduate programs, but once you get to the top 10 it’s a free for all.
Thank you very much
