Hey Guys,
Has anyone been accepted to Bard College Berlin for the class of 2020? I’m considering going, but I’m worried about how small the college is, and also not knowing German. Anyone have any advice/info about the college?
Calm down.
You don’t need to know German. Instruction is in English. It will be recommended to you to study German at BCB, though. This is a great thing, because you will be in the ideal setting to study the language. Imagine speaking fluent German in four years. You already know English. Time to learn a new language!
The smallness of the college is risky, but it could also be the best thing that ever happened to you. Hard to tell without visiting.
You will get two degrees: one recognized by America, one by Germany.
The program will be what you make of it. I honestly still think about having gone there. I think it would have been good for me: I have six potential majors here right now, and it’s driving me mad. If I had gone to BCB, I would have just majored in political science/economics, simply because I didn’t have choices and that I loved the social sciences in general.
I think BCB is an extraordinary opportunity. Have you looked at the profiles of professors there? They are all very accomplished people. The college is also extraordinarily cosmopolitan for its size.
My daughter is seriously considering Bard Berlin. It is tiny, but looks like an interesting program. The language is not an issue on campus as all classes are taught in English. Off campus, Berlin in such an international city, you can manage fine with English. You will need to study German to attain some proficiency as part of the program. What do you like about the the school? We are very interested to find others that are seriously considering BCB. Because it’s so small, its hard to get much feedback. Is there anyone that has attended? I’d love to hear your thoughts…
I love this thread. My S has been accepted at Bard, speaks German and is very interested in BCB. He is not sure about doing in freshman year because he worries he will miss out on meeting other Bard freshman. I’d also love to hear from students who have done this.
Anyone? We are visiting in April and trying to meet someone who did it…
We are not going to be able to make the April revisit, but I’d greatly appreciate any feedback. I’d also love to hear from anyone that has done a year (or more!) there. D is seriously considering the 4 year degree program.
