I’m a high school junior taking a sociology class in an ivy college in my city. This was my first college midterm and I did terrible. I got a 67. The class overall has 4 total grades. 30% midterm, 35% final, 20% response paper, and 15% class participation. What are the chances I can pass this class with an exact 3.00 gpa? I participated in class like twice and they were short answers. I’m so hesitant to because I get sooooo nervous which contradicts me bc I’m the opposite in all my ib classes. This is a new platform for me. I want to get a 3.00 gpa bc the class im taking is part of a program and you need to pass with a 3.00 to continue on the program. Any tips, strategies for this class and how I can come back from this horrible fail?
If it makes you feel less alone, I’m a college student who recently got 19% on a midterm and “had to” withdraw from the class.
If you get 100% on all the other tests and assignments, your grade will be (.351)+(.201)+(.151)+(.30.67) = .901 or 90.1%.
If you get 90% for participation and the response paper, and 82% on the final, your grade will be
(.35.82)+(.20.90)+(.15.90)+(.30.67) = .803 or 80.3%, which may be a B depending on the college.
It would be pretty hard to get an A in this class at this point (although it’s not impossible if 90% is an A and/or the professor curves the grades), but I think you could reasonably get a B.
Note that 67% isn’t necessarily a bad midterm grade, because it depends on how everyone else performed. I’ve taken tests where the average and median grades were in the 50s.
How did you study for this test? Where did you lose points?
Thanks for the reply!!! Well the prof gave us a study list of sociology terms we should know and I studied them well. The midterm was timed (1 hour 5 mins) and it was a lot to write. And I didn’t use the language the prof wanted us to use when defining terms. So lost a lot of points on that. we just got the response paper guidelines and its not so bad so maybe I think I can get close or even a 90. Just the final is a worry for me
