Barnard 2025 ED Deferred

hi everyone  i wanted to make a thread for those of us who got deferred from Barnard so we can talk about what the next steps are or see if we can find any current students who got in after being deferred

Hi!! I was deferred too. I was extremely dismayed because I was strangely confident in getting accepted. I contacted Barnard students who were deferred and then accepted. They highly recommend to write a love letter to Barnard, giving your update on the second semester.

hey! I was deferred as well. and im kind of confused with the supplemental information. can I send both a letter of continued interest AND a rec letter from a teacher?

from what i read onlilne deferred students have ā€œhigherā€ chances of being accepted because we have demonstrated interest (through ed) and generally have stronger applications (because we dedicated a lot on this application because of ed)

should this love letter (loved the term hahaha) be kind of a why barnard or more like an update on our lives??? Iā€™m really confused with all of this. I thought I would be either accepted or rejected, never deferredā€¦

From what Iā€™ve heard, Itā€™s good to first talk about why Barnard is still your top choice, and then you can list about 5 things youā€™ve done after you applied ED. It should be about 2.5 pages!!

You should also send in more letter of recs! I contacted my regional admission representative and she itā€™s always good to have a new perspective on you

Hi! I am brand new to college confidential but I think I have found the perfect place to connect with people who are as committed to Barnard as I am. I was deferred this year and I am very disheartened as I was confident in my application but I think I was relying on my test scores more than I shouldā€™ve in my ED application. I have a few questions that if anyone has any answers to I would appreciate all the help I can get. First of which, how do we submit more supplemental material such as our Barnard love letter (haha) but more specifically more letters of rec. I was also wondering if it was possible to submit a portfolio now as well as that is an option when initially applying. I will of course reach out to them with my questions but I was wondering if anyone here knows as well. I will update this once I hear back from them with clear answers to my questions.

I was wondering this, too. Maybe you are supposed to send to your regional rep?

for reallll i didnā€™t even consider deferral and now itā€™s my most hated word lol. i just do not know what our chances are and if i should go for it or consider ed 2

i emailed the admissions office asking if we can submit multiple forms of supplemental material and where to send them so iā€™ll let you know when i get a response.

ok i just got an email back and they said that all they request is a LOCI, nothing elseā€¦ i thought that they asked for other materials too, so iā€™m a little confused. but i guess we just need to send a LOCI?

Did any of you email your admissions officer to ask what about your application couldā€™ve been better? Iā€™ve seen from college advice websites that thatā€™s a thing you can do (depending on the college), but Iā€™m not sure if itā€™s a good thing to do for Barnard specifically

i called the admissions office today to ask about sending in additional supplemental info. the rep said to email to the admissions office by the RD deadline but there is a two week grace period (jan 18) for like additional rec letters.

my parents are trying to get me to ed 2 and saying barnard has effectively rejected me and that i probably wonā€™t end up at a good school if i donā€™t ed 2 lolšŸ˜ƒ is anyone here considering ed 2 at all?

I was considering ed 2, but Iā€™m staying hopeful that Iā€™ll get into Barnard, so Iā€™m not gonna do it. I think the decision honestly comes down to how likely you think you are to get into Barnard RD and how much of a risk youā€™re willing to take

yeah word. i think iā€™m going to stick with it because at this point i have my heart set on Barnard and if i donā€™t try for it i feel like iā€™ll regret it forever
