Barnard and Columbia

Are they the same school with the exception that one is the girls school and one is coed?

This has got to be flame bait.

Taking it at face value:

No, they are not the same school. They are both technically undergraduate colleges of Columbia University. Barnard has separate admissions offices, financial aid pools, registrars, bursars, and sets of classes. They have a separate dining hall, separate buildings on a separate campus, and separate (all-girls) dorms.

Students at one may take classes at the other, you can go to each others' dining halls, and in some limited circumstances can live in each other's dorms. But the degree programs are very different.

Barnard has its own board here on CC, you should check it out if you're interested.

Can we kill this thread, please?

denzera thank you. I don't understand why all the bashing at my question. I was really just curious because a neighbor's daughter is going to Barnard and she says she attends Columbia.

No replies to this please. If you want to know why it's so negatively received, do a search for barnard and look at all the "barnard vs columbia" threads. There's a lot of dry timber on the ground in that area on this forum.

yeah, sorry guitar, I didn't mean to jump down your throat. This forum unleashes a lot of latent resentment and Barnard vs Columbia and Columbia vs GS or some such combination are the most combustible topics.
