sorry, I meant Echoes

Has anyone sched. an interview yet?

I’m waiting until Sept. to sign-up for an alumni interview

I just heard about this school rather recently, and the more I look into it, the more I love it. I go to an all-girl school now, and in all of my searches, I had completely ignored all single-sex colleges. However, I ended up looking it up when I remembered that my Big Sister (there’s a Big Sister/Little Sister program at my high school where a senior is a mentor for a freshman) had this school as her top choice. I wasn’t expecting to like it, but the more I read, the more I loved it.

I haven’t visited yet, but unless the school is drastically different than it seems on the website, I’ll be applying. Sadly, this school seems to be a bit of a reach for me. I’m seeing some of everyone else’s stats, and mine are nowhere near as impressive. My SAT scores are around the average (2020, though I’ll be retaking it in October), and my GPA is a bit lower than average (3.72). My extracurriculars are pretty strong, I believe, and my courseload had all of the most challenging courses offered.

And after reading the first few pages, I really feel like I am going to like the students there too (or at least some of the applicants). And @mdh625, I also love embryology and am considering being an OB/GYN (or a pediatrician).

I haven’t scheduled my interview yet, but it will probably be sometime in August. I don’t get to get down to New York City that often, and probably won’t be able to make it down there during the school year.

Hi KaiserinSisi! Welcome! Im glad to meet another girl with similar interests

I can not believe girls that in jst a few more months its college app time!! (should I be excited or scared? lol)
Umm I was wondering if any of you gals have heard of HEOP at Barnard? I really wanna learn more about it.
I dont know if I want an interview just beacuse I read part of last year’s thread and the girls that were interviewed seemd much more interestin than me lol (I read about girls wanting to be owners of museums and comicbooks … Im just a boring pre med lol!)
I have gone to two college fairs and gone up to the barnard table and grabbed everything there lol! I am probably going to go to an open house soon as well… im 99.9% sure I wanna do ED… lets see if someone can convince me out of it

I hope you are all having a great summer :D

I’m visiting/interviewing next week! At the moment I’m not feeling particularly nervous, but I’m super excited to see the campus, and of course New York!

Any ideas regarding attire? Will something somewhat casual (short-sleeved top, skirt, flats/sandals… it’s pretty warm after all) be appropriate? I’ll be interviewing in the admissions office if that makes a difference.

I’m hoping that my interview can show some of my hobbies that aren’t listed on the common app, like how I’m teaching myself French and German by translating musicals from those languages to English. I mentioned this at an interview at Fairfield yesterday, and the interviewer seemed to be really interested in that. :D

aspheric: I would just wear a business casual dress and nice sandals (not foamy flipflops)

mdh625:As for HEOP, isn’t that an NY state thing? They have BOP, but I’m a little confused about that. It seems strange that they would have a MAX sat writing score of 600.

and

kaiserin: don’t worry so much about your SAT scores. their med. score is 2050 so you’re pretty close. Barnard is not a school that would automatically reject you because of SATs. They say that they approach the app. process “holistically” and really look for girls that are well rounded and cultured. Unlike some other schools, I actually believe them when they say scores aren’t everything.

Thanks, I just feel like it would be best to try to be as competitive for this school as I can. It’s the most selective of my list, and it’s also one of my top picks. I’m getting pretty nervous over the whole application process. I know scores aren’t everything, but getting them a bit higher couldn’t hurt.

I’m still not sure how much financial aid I would get here, though. :P

yeah, I was worried about FA for a while too, but talking to current students definitely helped me get a better understanding of their FA. I don’t know what your efc is, but they seem pretty generous considering their endowment size.

ahhh!

The new supplement is posted and most of the questions are new.

It says brief answers but does anyone know around what word count they expect?

C. is going to be hard to write because I don’t want to sound cliched and B. is pretty tricky as well. I wish they would have chosen either history or fiction, not a choice between both. That’s too many women to chose from!

Take the number of lines they have provided as a clue to how long they want the answer to be. They say one, well-developed paragraph – they really want you to get the to the point pretty quickly.

I think it’s cool that they have come up with new questions – it looks like a set of perfect questions for Barnard women, as well.

I really like question B. I’m torn between two women: one fictional and one historical. :D

I’'ve heard plenty of good things about the financial aid too, but I’m still worried. I’m just a natural worrier.

Me too!

And I’m kind of leaning towards a fictional woman, but isn’t that covered in the common app essays?

And does historic have to mean dead?

Hey everyone. I’ve just read this whole thread and I’m glad to find a group of girls who are as excited as I am to apply to Barnard. I think I finally decided that I want to apply ED. My GPA is a bit below the norm and SAT score is in the 21-s so I think I should be alright but I’m retaking in October. I have a good, tough schedule and my ECs are pretty strong (I hope). I haven’t visited yet but I will later this year since I don’t live too far from the school. So I guess that’s my introduction ^__^

@chancerychislett I don’t believe that the historic woman would have to be dead, but I could be wrong. I would contact the admissions office.

@ethereality4 Hi! Welcome to the little group of future applicants. :)

Hey girls! I’m extremely interested in Barnard and I cannot wait to apply right away August 1st. I’m unbelievably nervous; this school is definitely a reach for me, but I love it! And I’m pretty nervous about FA even I do manage to get in.

I want to major in Anthropology and Pre-med. I’m hoping to go on to Med school and study Internal Medicine.

It seems so strange to finally be applying for college. It feels like just yesterday I was a sophmore starting to get loads of college phamplets in the mail! Anyhow I can’t wait for those letters; gah I hate waiting!

I haven’t said anything in a while… so HI lol.

My summer’s been pretty boring. I’m actually sort of excited for school! Especially since my ACTs magically pulled through (my guidance counselor told me 2 days before the test just to take it for the heck of it). I was like practically crying when I got the scores because I had been preparing myself since like May to have to study for SATs again over the summer and have to take them in October. I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders :). NO STANDARDIZED TESTS THIS YEAR (unless I decide to be insane and retake my SATs again although I probs just won’t send them).

Hi Marisarinkevich! I’m in a similar position, though I’ll be waiting until late November to apply because I need to retake the SAT I’s and take some more SAT II’s. But Barnard is a bit of a reach for me too, both financially and in my chances of getting in. Good luck, though!

I’m planning on pre-med too.

I know what you mean about it seeming so strange to finally be at this point. It’s a bit scary. :S

And rainbowrose, that’s awesome about your ACT scores! I still have to take those in September, and retake the SATs in October. It must feel great to be done with all of these tests! Congratulations!

I’m NOT planning on premed lol. I’m thinking probably chem or chem engineering if I can get a deal with SEAS (which I probably won’t be able to). It also depends where else I get in because an all girls school is not my first choice but Barnard is definitely my favorite all girls school and it’s still up there on the all-schools list.

KaiserinSisi, it’s even better when you’re not expecting it! It’s one thing if you study a ton and get like all 2300/35s on your practice tests, but it’s another to do no prep, take it for the heck of it, and do really well :). I’m so freaking happy I JUST got the scores a few days ago since I took the test on standby.

@marisarinkevich: That’s funny, I plan on majoring in anthropology (possible double major/minor in psych) and probably premed-ing as well.

Anyhow, I visited Barnard and it was everything I imagined it to be (well, I practically stalk the Barnard website/youtube page/etc). I had an interview, but don’t know what to make of it. I feel like I wasn’t as eloquent as I could’ve been and I don’t think I stressed how much of a dream it would be for me to attend Barnard. I think I focused too much on the location of the school vs Barnard’s other great attributes. I just really hope my personality and interests shone through. And interviews don’t make or break the applicant… right? Ahh I need reassurance.
