I just wanted to start a thread to see if anyone on this forum is planning on applying to Barnard next year. I’d love to get to know you all!
I’m a rising senior from Colorado in the IB program and Barnard is my first choice. I love music and theatre, and I adore anything that lets me get outdoors (so hiking, backpacking, skiing, running, etc.). I want to major in Environmental Science or Environmental Bio, but in a liberal arts setting.
What about you all? I’d love to know where you’re from, your academic interests, what you do for fun, etc.
Hi! Barnard is my first choice too. Super excited and anxious to apply.
I’m a rising senior (obvs) from Northern California. I hope to major in Physics. Or political science. Or something! All I know is that I want to teach science and then become a lobbyist for education reform. I think I might minor in Spanish too… (I kinda just want to learn everything??)
I enjoy sewing, thrifting and creating outfits. I also like singing (though I’m not any good at it) and eating. Aha,
I’ve also been getting into reading and writing again. Have any books to recommend?
It’s nice to meet you! Hopefully we’ll be walking around the same campus about a year or so from now.
Hi! I visited Barnard this summer and fell in love!
I’m from Boston, MA and hope to major in bio or environmental science. Possibly combine that with law or international relations. (Still figuring out the details haha)
I love outdoors activities as well- hiking, biking, and skiing are my long-weekend with the family activities haha. I also love Model UN, which is something I’ve done throughout high school.
I reallly want to go to Barnard but my GPA is low, but on the other hand I have strong extra curriculars and leadership skills. Hope to see you both on campus in a year from now
Hey everyone! I visited Barnard this summer as well, and it was literally PERFECT. I’m from Texas, and I was thinking of either majoring in Economics & Mathematics, or Political Science, or International Relations, or maybe even Chemistry… ehh… I guess I’ll figure out there
I volunteer with an Indian nonprofit, participate in Model UN (let’s gooo @llamalover321 :D), and play tennis. @charmandquark I recently read Walden 2 and it was really good! But if you’re looking for lighter reading, I’ve been binging on a lot of sappy young adult novels lately (don’t ask) and can recc you some of those too LOLOL
Hi
Barnard is my first choice as well, and I’ll be applying ED this November.
I’m from Kansas City, MO originally, but I go to boarding school in MA, and this summer I’m in Turkey on a scholarship program ( @llamalover321 - BOSTON BROS!). I’m not 100% sure about my major yet. I really love linguistics, but I basically have to get a grad degree if I want to go into it, so my major options are pretty open. I’m thinking English, Psych, Slavic, French, or designing my own Ling major.
My hobbies are pretty vanilla. I love reading and writing, and I do some writing contests. I’m really into languages (obviously) so I also spend a lot of time studying them. I also love animals with all my heart, so I volunteer at the MSPCA and I work at a pet store.
Super excited to meet y’all, and I hope we’ll get to meet forreal as Barnard freshmen next year.
I’m a rising senior for New Jersey. Barnard is definitely one of my top choices because, as much as I love Columbia, the chances of getting in there are just crazy lol. I plan to major in international relations and hopefully through Columbia’s SIPA school get my Masters in International Affairs in 5 years, prob go to law school after.
I play field hockey and I love watching football (#PatsNation). I love to write poetry and such, binge watch Netflix, eat good food, bake, and spend time with my friends (I feel like I’m filling out an online dating profile omg)
Schoolwise, I’m a very well rounded student, plenty of volunteer hours in many different places, involved in a lot with a bunch of leadership positions, my GPA and classes are good, and my SAT/ACT scores are pretty solid, though I’ll be taking them a second time on the upcoming test dates to get the oh so lovely math scores to improve.
I’m from D.C. and I’m super interested in Barnard. I’m an IB Diploma Candidate (I should probably start my EE soon lol) and a MUNer too! I’m also involved with lots of other clubs and hold leadership positions in a lot of them. As for sports, I play field hockey and run track. Outside of school, I do martial arts–I’m a black belt and a volunteer children’s instructor. In my free time, I like reading poetry and classics, learning interesting and foreign words no one has ever heard of, baking, hiking, and watching old films. I’m very into International Relations, and I’m pretty sure that if I go to Barnard, I’ll be doing SIPA with Columbia, and possibly law school afterwards too (wow, we have many similarities @ickydickydoo).
Has anyone here applied for Barnard Bound? Results should be coming out soon and I’m so nervous and excited to find out if I can go or not haha!
Just a head’s up – the combined program with SIPA is notoriously difficult to get into. You can definitely plan on applying, but they only take one or two Barnard students each year. So getting into the program can be something of a long shot. (Not necessarily a bad thing long term – it seems like a good idea in theory to get a 5-year masters – but there may be other masters’ programs that are a better match for your career interests and goals)
hi guys!
i’m from NJ and i absolutely adore Barnard. I’m into pretty much everything (i love art and building things, i paint theater sets, i’m in a strange club that focuses on creatively solving problems, i’m working on analyzing a DNA sequence, and i love random trivia). i’m most likely going to major in biology and history or anthropology
Hi everyone!
I’m from California and Barnard is my first choice! I love music and theatre and I am planning on applying to Barnard as a music major! I’m a little worried my academic record is not strong enough, for I am terrible at math. I do pretty well in English and history, and I have taken a lot of music lessons and classes, so I’m hoping I have a chance. But anyways, I hope I can meet all of you about a year from now when we enter college! Good luck with senior year!!
I’m a rising senior from around Boston, MA and Barnard is my first choice as well! I’ve done so much touring over the past couple of months, but when I first walked through those Morningside Heights gates, I knew I had found a place where I could see myself living and thriving.
I’d love to pursue a Political Science, Sociology, or Urban Studies major/minor, and eventually head to law school. I’m interested in the SIPA program as well, but who knows where the future will take me. Activity-wise, I’m hoping to participate in theater, a cappella, or greek life on campus. I love the performing arts as much as I love debating politics, so hopefully Barnard will be the place where I can do both of those things.
Good luck everyone with their senior years/applications! You all seem fabulous and I hope we can all meet one day.
Hey! I was wondering if you guys think that because I didn’t take any APs, I might not get accepted? I was very busy with my ACs and my part-time job, that I didn’t get the chance to do them. What do you guys think?
