Has anyone called and asked about the decision date?
Hi @mimimo7890, current student here. There definitely is a sense of community at Barnard. If you do not feel like it is as tight nit as you would have hoped, you can join CU sororities, clubs or sports teams and that will 100% give you the community you would want. Hope that helps!
Also, @mimimo7890 I will say that Barnard is liberal as it is an Ivy League (undergraduate college of CU), and I have tons of friends at every Ivy League, all of whom say that most Ivies are very liberal. Columbia University, in particular, is very liberal given that it is in NYC. I would say that Columbia University is not any more liberal than Barnard. There are definitely some conservatives here and they are usually in the CU Republicans Club.
@a20171 I had a similar list as well! I got into Georgetown, Cornell, and Duke as well as Barnard. Definitely happy I chose Barnard! I also have a few close friends from Wake and Colgate who transferred to Barnard this year. Good luck!!
@mimimo7890 A lot of people at Barnard got into USC and ND too!
@NYCGirl33 have you ever heard of anyone transferring from Barnard to Columbia? Just wondering thanks?
just called the barnard admissions office and they said they are sending out an email tomorrow with an exact date and time to check our portal, she said the day to check would be the end of this week
is there a link to the portal?
@studiocity it’s the one they emailed you after you applied.
I have a 1310 SAT (630 M 680 CRW) and ~90% GPA from Canada. I have just been rejected from Colby, NU, Midd, and Colgate, and I really love Barnard. I think my essays were pretty good, and I have tons of EC’s. I know my scores aren’t great so my US schools are reaches, but I’m feeling quite discouraged because of my rejections.
Do you guys think I have a chance?
What do you guys think my chances are (majoring in poli sci)?
ACT 33, 3.98/4.25 gpa / All of my extracurriculars are about politics/journalism/art (editor-in-chief of the yearbook, photo/business editor of the school newspaper, member of harvard model congress, volunteer on the campaign trail of a congressional candidate who is now a congressman, etc etc + submitted an art portfolio on slideroom) I don’t volunteer that much rip but I put all of my effort into my passions/extracurrics I just don’t know if it will show through my app lmao. thank u ! im just getting really shook because if they do plan to release this week im not ready !!!
@ghvan99 wow, i am also canadian and my stats are similar! hopefully we both get in. i would chance you but i feel like i dont have a place to judge your admissions. i know barnard really values GPA and essays so hopefully you wrote those well. im glad i found another canadian applicant! may i ask, what do you think is your hook? like what makes you unique?
@thenewstyped you look pretty good, but then again im just another applicant so i cant really say! your ACT is good and so is your gpa, and your application sounds good as well. i think it’s really important though to demonstrate that you are a good fit for Barnard, to demonstrate interest, and to demonstrate Barnard’s values in ur essays gal so hopefully u did that. i hope you get in!! also… chance me back? here are my statz
ACT: 30 composite
GPA: im canadian and we dont calculate high school gpa, but my average would be an A+ in Canadian standards??
EC’s that i included in my application:
-150+ hours of community service (volunteering)
-Community Green Leader position for my city’s official municipal environment division
-Summer volunteer for ICNA Relief Youth Leadership Development Program, received recognition from Ontario government
-Debate club member
-Executive position on school’s HOSA team as Trainer, competing at Spring Leadership Conference 2017
-Actor in SEARS festival
-Sales executive at Solutions store
background: pakistani muslim (used this in my essays to reflect diversity n stuff)
okkk anyways lmao good luck to u and to all reading this! i really really hope we get in! <3
also i applied as a poli sci major but i think i might major in econ instead!
@beepboop344 ayy twins!! + also brown twins lmao (I’m indian-american haha). same here, since i’m an applicant too idk how well i can chance others but you for sure have a good chance, especially all of your extracurriculars + major volunteering! + i can see your extracurrics relating back to a passion for politics. i hope we both get admitted !
@beepboop344 I don’t really have any traditional “hooks”, but if you just mean things that make me unique, I wrote one of my responses about participating (and placing in) a national pageant! My EC’s are pretty diverse and my main common app essay is about a situation where a boy told me I couldn’t do something because I was too girly. (idk if this is good for Barnard bc it’s very feminist or bad bc it’s kind of common at Barnard)
I hope we both get in!! (Canada represent :)>- )
@thenewstyped omg girl ur desi? ily already omg! which state are you from?
no that sounds great and empowering! i really hope we get in, and good luck! any idea how many canadian students they would take?? like 20 or something?
@beepboop344 yass!!! im from california lmao
@beepboop344 I have no clue, but they might put it somewhere in their common data set… but I guess they have to take into consideration yield, so probably more than they would expect to attend.
