hello everyone! i am applying to barnard as well and am definitely feeling a tad nervous. i haven’t committed to a major, but im thinking of a humanities-related major on the premed track!
Hello Everyone. So glad to find this thread. Is anyone considering applying between Wellesley and Barnard? What drawn on you of the two schools?
Hey guys! I also am very interested in Barnard and it’s probably my top school! Quick question: since Barnard looks at applicants holistically, how heavy do you guys think our GPAs will be considered? Considering COVID-19 and many students having their classes pass/fail, I’m curious as to how important GPAs will be - as Barnard tends to accept students with high GPAs
Hi everyone! I’m debating wether or not I want to ED to Barnard next year heh. What do y’all love about Barnard that makes you want to go to school there?
Hi everyone! I’m applying ED to Barnard this year, I saw someone posted a link to a discord server but it’s expired Could anyone send the link again?
Hey everyone!! Rising senior applying to Barnard in the fall. I’m considering applying ED, but I haven’t heard much about whether Barnard is generous with financial aid. Anyone know more about that?
I am also considering applying ED this fall but I’m an international student and need financial aid. Is Barnard generous for aid?
Barnard gives need-based financial aid and they have a financial aid calculator that will predict how much you’ll get. Here it is: https://app.myintuitionapp.org/institution/117f7578-81c4-4b9b-a753-cadd34350d37/costestimator
also interested though my q is what does it mean when they say" you can take classes at Columbia except for core classes"?
what is core? can someone give me examples
Good luck to everyone…
@comom25 - Core classes are the classes the university requires for your to graduate. You can learn more about which classes fall with the core on each school’s website.
Columbia prides itself and is known for their strong core both in the humanities and sciences and I believe the core consists of almost 2 years of required courses - they say the core is how they differentiate from the other Ivy league schools. Their core is also known to be tough, with more reading than can be done and is a grind - but you come out with a lot more knowledge too A school like Brown or Vassar and many others only have a few core requirements for graduation.
For Barnard, you must complete Barnard’s core and can take courses at Columbia as part of your major and electives but Columbia courses can not count against your Barnard core and vice versa. There is a credit limit you can take from Columbia as a Barnard student and this will be on their website and explained in their online information sessions.
@coffeeat3 Thank you… i tried finding the link is you happen to have it on hand can i ask you to frwrd it to me. So essentially you can take columbia classes for the first 2 years to so till you get to more advanced and then it separates out? so i have to enroll in a major that only barnard offers? If i were to choose double major or major/minor do both then have to be Barnard?
@comom25 - go to each of the school’s websites and you will find information about the core, major requirements etc… There are a couple majors that Barnard students can take classes at Columbia to fulfill the major and most of these questions will be answered for you if you sign up for an online information session - also on the website for each college. If you are a Barnard student - You CAN NOT take the core through Columbia. It is best for you to go deep with the information offered directly from the college to understand what is and is not an option. Go to their virtual visit tab and you can sign up for a student chat plus an information session and then later this Fall they will have a virtual Open House week with a lot more information.
omg I wanna apply their w a major in comp sci!
me too. it’s definitely my top choice for university but a) even though I have good ECs, I’m great at essays and I’ll have good LORs, my grades are average and b) I’ll need financial aid for sure bc it’s not cheap to go to school in the US, especially when you aren’t from there
im a psych/eng intended major. Super excited! im not sure about ED but yea Barnard is one of my top choices.
given the covid situation idk how they are gonna look at intl students tbh im worried
YESS hi, I am considering ED but very scared of bad financial aid bc I’m international. Also I have the interview today I’m a little scared
Also I plan to major in Architecture
Hey people! Will ED Barnard for music! Asian here and goes to skl in UK~
Does anyone have any idea of how to make yourself stand out? I REALLY want to go to Barnard. I’ve worked for this my whole life but still feel like I don’t have chance due to how competitive the school is.
Guys, how important is interview in this process. it says considered but not important on the portal but does anyone have data on what percent ed chose to have an interview?
