Does anyone know what time Barnard released decisions last year?

D2 has 34 ACT w 31 Math, 35 Science, 36 English, 35 Reading. GPAs are maybe 3.95 and 4.99. All seems good. But she’s not taken a bazillion AP classes. Is this problematic? Thanks. Theatre major at state’s art school. Actor, singer, dancer.

How do you get a 4.99 without taking a bazillion AP courses? Just curious. Many students don’t take AP until Jr year and some schools limit the number you can take. In our district you could theoretically take 1 Freshman yr, max 2 Sophomore yr, and up to 5 each Jr/Sr IF (big IF) the schedules work out. 3-4 each yr Junior and Senior is more normal for a highly motivated student. My D is an IBD candidate so she only had 2 APs courses Fr/So years-- all IB Jr/Sr years. It’s all going to be relevant to what is available at your school which is part of the counselor eval.

I think since we have such an active thread here, maybe just post results on this one?

Thanks. She corrected me and said 4.94 out of 5.2. The unweighted and weighted system is newer to me - I’ve not dug into how exactly it works. I think she has the choice of regular, honors, and AP, and believe honors are weighed close to or the same as AP. So, I think in her case, good number of honors course and more modest number of AP. In the context of what seems to be grade inflation and the system of W and UW, it seems like these granular points matter. I suppose that’s my question. As well, I know D1 took 6-7 AP course each term senior year, so in comparison with her as well as other Barnard applicants, I’m wondering if her academic rigor is sufficient. Thanks.

I’m already feeling nervous even though I have been telling myself I can still ED2/RD great skls… Anyone in a similar position?

No, you’re not alone. I feel the same. I have a list of schools that will still be great options and honestly way more affordable but when you’ve been dreaming about a school for a while you think there’s no other options, I mean we did ED for a reason. At least we can deal with or celebrate the results early.

Thanks sister, do you mind replying to a post I have just posted lmao? I am so anxious and can’t really concentrate that well in terms of writing the essays that I will need for RD in terms of worst case scenario… Scrolling on the confidential does help!!! I mean there’re also fab skls I love, like Midd/Wells/Oberlin/Brown, but Barnard just felt right in the first instance though its not perfect (just low low endowment)

sure I can reply. Is your post in this topic or somewhere else? Having a hard time finding it.

thanks so much, I’m wondering if I have gone too aggressive in replying college mom? I mean Oxford releases its results a bit after ED2 ddl, so I really have to decide what to do and what she said does not help… Thanks so much again

My dad sees Oxford and Cambridge as the best schools in the world but he didn’t grow up in America, he’s from Nigeria which has heavy English influences, so I basically grew up thinking those were the the top tier schools because of him. Honestly, other than knowing that their very old and prestigious schools I dont know much about them. I guess I kind of see it as a more extreme British version of Harvard if that makes sense. But based on the generalizations I’ve heard about foreign college systems, America is definitely more extreme and competitive, so i wouldn’t be that surprised if Oxbridge was just as or easier to get into than the ivies. Hope this helps :)!!

thanks so much!! I mean yeah it’s a different way of selecting kids, they ask you to be uber good at one subject and just focus on that and will give you extremely difficult test/academic interviews to test your knowledge on one specific subject in a way I’d say yes it is generally easier for ppl to get into Oxbridge due to the predictability of admissions, but I’ve seen ppl getting into Caltech/Harvard but rejected by Cambridge. Oxbridge is very much a British thing, and the US selection of students will result more well-rounded kids, which is why I think the States is so frontier in terms of producing scholars/new tech, the education is rly good.

Mhm that’s pretty interesting. I had no idea that’s how Oxbridge selected students. Maybe check out schools like MIT, Caltech, or Carnegie Mellon where they really want their prospective students to have interest in one or two subjects (in these case it is math and or science) IDK what your planning on majoring in but maybe that helps.

hah Im a musician, that’s a major reason why Barnard; you r so so so so niceeee!

OOh yeah lol those schools won’t help much. I’m sure you’ve heard of them but maybe Julliard?

I‘m applying to Manhattan, Julliard I won’t be able to handle the workload hah; but I am applying after hearing the ED results or else wise it is a Barnard-specific application and I don’t really want to waste 75 dollars on a destined rejection :))))

Aw nice. That sounds great. You have a fantastic list of schools. Good luck with your supplements, I know I’m strugglin rn lol

I think we all can’t concentrate that well before ED releases, but I’m going to try my best as time is clicking and I’ll be on the stove if I haven’t made much progress on my RD long-list

that was the most british thing I’ve ever heard anyone say
