I would like to hear testimony from students who have taken classes at both institutions, and how they have found them to compare?

So far I've only had 1 class at Columbia, and it was by far my worst class. It was Statistics, which I can't imagine to be very thrilling in any setting. Barnard/Columbia is also not known for an exceptional math department.

What are Barnard/Columbia's exceptional departments, then?

There are a few really great math profs, though. Neumann's awesome, Gallagher's practically legendary (but I think he's retiring), and I really loved Bayer, though I don't think that's a universal sentiment.

I think the exceptional departments.. from my own experience / general consensus..

Barnard - English/ Psych / Poli Sci / Romance Languages
Columbia - Poli Sci / Econ (due to exceptional faculty like Stiglitz, Sachs) / Slavic + Asian Languages...

and remember this is just ones that I GUARANTEE in.. there's plenty others especially in the Engineerging school that I'm not familiar with.
